PhD of Management in Film Industry

This program is to cultivate independent researchers in film management studies creative managers in the film industry. Graduates will become cinematic production and management professionals with solid academic background.

I. Duration of Study

The normal study period of PhD of Management in Film Industry program is three years. The maximum study period for local and non-mainland part-time students is 6 years. Otherwise, students are regarded as full-time students and the maximum study period will be set as 4.5 years.

V. Study Requirements

  1. Students are required to complete and pass the four compulsory courses and three elective courses in the first 2 semesters to gain 21 credits. After finishing each course, students have to pass the exam or finish a study report. Their performances will be marked according to their course discussions, exam marks and reports.
  2. Students have to complete the field study in the second or third year of study and finish related reports.
  3. Students who complete seven courses in Table one and two can submit thesis topic. Only after getting formal permission can they start their theses following the faculty instructions.
  4. Students have to publish at least one academic paper in the approbatory academic journal. Then, they can attain the arrangement to carry on the oral defense.
  5. The thesis must go through examine and oral defense.

VI. Duration of the Program

The duration for taking all courses is 12 months and the duration for thesis writing is 24 months.

VII. Qualification for Graduation

Upon approval from the Senate of the University, a Master/Doctoral Degree will be conferred on a student when he or she has:
1. Completed and met the requirements prescribed in the study plan of his or her program within the specific study period*
2. Abided by the regulations of the University
3. Cleared all fees and charges and returned all University property and equipment borrowed

* Students admitted from the academic year 2017/2018 onwards are required to achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above (excluding thesis/dissertation) in order to graduate.
