Prof.Zhang Hai Invited To Give A Talk

To celebrate the 17th Anniversary of Macau University of Science and Technology, the Faculty of Information Technology held an academic seminar at Block E, Room 302 on April 3rd, 2017. Prof.Zhang Haiwas the invited speakers. Prof Zhang’s talk was on “Nonconvex Regularization Approaches and Their Applications.Around 30 students and faculty members attended the seminar, including the Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology Prof.Zhang Du, the Assistant Dean Prof. Liang Yongand the Assistant Dean Prof. Li JianQing.

The nonconvex regularization approaches are effective in dealing with the high dimensional and massive data. In the seminar, Prof. Zhang summarized several results obtained by their team in this line of research. Firstly, he showed the essential ability of sparse signal reconstruction of different regularization methods by using phase transition. Secondly, he proposed the new iterative thresholding algorithms for different nonconvex regularization methods based on Belief Propagation in graphical model. At last, he discussed the structure learning of network data with the nonconvex regularization approaches.
