Study Plan of Doctor of Philosophy in Science

 

This program appeals to those who wish to advance their studies and research in the information technology fields in great breadth and depth. The program helps students to lay a solid foundation and develop a strong capability for conducting research in information technology. Students will be prepared for the faculty positions for universities or institutions. For broadening the scope of knowledge, students are required to attend academic activities and listen to academic presentations. In addition, each of the students is required to write a literature review based on the selected major so as to understand the state-of-the-arts in related research fields. Students are also required to develop the capabilities of writing technical papers and   presenting research work, which lays a good foundation for writing their thesis proposals, and their final dissertations.

Students may select their academic concentrations based on their research interests and their supervisors' areas of research. After finishing all courses, those students who have completed an innovative thesis and passed the oral defense can apply for the Doctor of Philosophy in Science. There are three majors in this program:

 

Computer Technology and Application

This major provides training for students to become senior-level researchers in the area of computer technology and application. We provide high-quality courses in selected topics in computer technology, training students to master the research methods in computer technology. This major will solidify their foundation for conducting research in the field of computer technology. Graduates should propose innovative ideas or publish innovative research results on a specialized topic.

 

Electronic Information Technology

This major provides training for students to become senior-level researchers in the area of electronic information technology. We provide high-quality courses in selected topics in electronic information technology, training students to master the research methods in electronic information technology. This major will solidify their foundation for conducting research in the field of electronic information technology.Graduates should propose innovative ideas or publish innovative research results on a specialized topic.

 

Space Information Technology

Space information technology is a multidisciplinary major of information technology and space science. This major provides training for students to become senior-level researchers in the area of space information technology. We provide high-quality courses in selected topics in information technology and space science, training students to master the research methods for analyzing of space science data. This major will solidify their foundation for conducting research in the field of space information technology.Graduates should propose innovative ideas or publish innovative research results on a specialized topic.

1. Students are required to take 12 credits during study period.

2. In general, each student should publish at least two SCI journal papers, and must be the first author of one of these papers.

3. Complete an innovative thesis and pass the oral defense.

Those students who have completed 12 credits and passed the oral defense can apply for the Doctor of Philosophy in Science.

 

Students will have a total of 36 months to complete the program. The maximum study period is 54 months for full-time students, and 72 months for local part-time students.

 

The student will be awarded the Doctor of Philosophy in Science degree if he/she fully fills the following requirements and obtains the confirmation from the Senate of the University:

(1) Complete and meet the requirements prescribed in the study plan within the specific study period*;

(2) Abide by the regulations of the University;

(3) Clear all fees and charges and return all University property and equipment borrowed.

*Students admitted from the academic year 2017/2018 onwards are required to achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above (excluding thesis/dissertation) in order to graduate.
