Master of Laws Study Plan

I. Program Duration

This normal study period of Master of Laws program is 2 years. The maximum study period is 3 years. (Students admitted in or before academic year 2018/2019, please refer to the rules and regulations as stipulated in the intake academic year study plan).

VII. Teaching Requirements

  1. Students are required to complete 45 credits, including 3 core courses in Table 1 (9 credits), 3 major core courses in Table 2 (9 credits), 2 elective courses in Table 3 (4 credits), 4 other core courses in Table 4 (13 credits) and Thesis in Table 5 (10 credits).
  2. Students’ performances will be marked according to their course discussions, reports and exam marks.
  3. Students are required to complete a research thesis which is between 30,000~50,000 words and pass the thesis oral defense.

VIII. Study Time

  1. The duration for taking all courses is 12 months and the duration for thesis writing is 12 months.
  2. In general, classes will be arranged from Monday to Friday night.

IX. Graduation Requirements

Upon approval from the Senate of the University, a Master’s Degree will be conferred on a student when he or she has:

  1. Completed and met the requirements prescribed in the study plan of his or her program within the specific study period, and achieved a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above (excluding thesis)
  2. Abided by the regulations of the University
  3. Cleared all fees and charges and returned all University’s property and equipment borrowed

If the students pass all courses required in Table 1 to 4 above with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above, but fail to submit or pass the final thesis oral defense during the specified period, he/ she only can get a completion certificate.

In case of any discrepancy, the Chinese version shall prevail.
