1. Aims

This program is teaching-based, ability-oriented and innovation-driven. It aims at cultivating high-level professionals with excellent academic morality, broad academic vision, solid theoretical foundation, profound humanistic cultivation, systematic professional knowledge and continuous innovative spirit.

8. Teaching Requirements

  1. Students are required to complete 5 core courses from Table 1 and 1 major course from Table 2 to gain 23 credits in the first two semesters. Students are also required to complete academic activities to gain 3 credits and defend the dissertation successfully to gain 12 credits, to gain a total of 38 credits required in this doctorate program.
  2. Upon completion of thesis proposal defense, the students can start the dissertation of 80,000 word count minimum.
  3. Within this PhD program, students should publish one paper on the category-one academic journals which is approved by MUST or publish at least two paper in category-two academic journals.
  4. Students should join at least 10 academic activities, including participation in academic lectures, seminars, symposiums, workshops, research programs, which are approved by Institute for Social and Cultural Research, or the academic training courses offered by Educational Development Centre at MUST, during the doctorate program.
  5. The dissertation should pass the assessment and be defended successfully.

9. Study Time

The duration for taking all courses is 12 months and the duration of dissertation composition is 24 months.

10. Graduation Requirements

Upon approval from the Senate of the University, a Doctoral Degree will be conferred on a student when he or she has:

  1. Completed and met the requirements prescribed in the study plan of his or her program within the specific study period, and achieved a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above (excluding dissertation)
  2. Abided by the regulations of the University
  3. Cleared all fees and charges and returned all University’s property and equipment borrowed
