The first academic committee of MUST Lunar and Planetary Science Laboratory was established

The first academic committee of MUST Lunar and Planetary Science Laboratory – Partner Laboratory of Key Laboratory of Lunar and Deep Space Exploration, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was established on Nov. 20th. The first meeting of the committee was held on the same day, focusing on the discussion of the research direction, research programs, talents cultivation, and so on.

The meeting started with a ceremony in which the agreements of employment were presented. At the beginning of the ceremony, Associate Vice President Jiang Zhihong read out the name list of the first academic committee. Next, Mr. Ma Chi Ngai, President of Macao Science and Technology Development Fund, and Prof. Liu Liang, President of MUST, made a speech respectively, celebrating the establishment of the first academic committee and presenting the agreements of employment to the committee members. Mr. Liu Xiaoqun, Director of Department of Lunar and Deep Space Exploration, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Tang Zesheng, Academic Advisor and Director of Space Science Institute, MUSTalso attended the meeting.

MUST Lunar and Planetary Science Laboratory – Partner Laboratory of Key Laboratory of Lunar and Deep Space Exploration, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the first partner laboratory of Chinese Academy of Sciences that was set up outside of the mainland China. Prof. Ou Yang Zi Yuan, member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, is appointed as the director of the academic committee. Committee members include Mr. Yan Jun, Head of National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Wang Chi, Vice Director of National Center for Space Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Li Chun Lai, Researcher from Key Laboratory of Lunar and Deep Space Exploration, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Xiao Long, Deputy Director of Planetary Science Institute in China University of Geosciences, Mr. Lin Yang Ting, Researcher from Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Chang Jin, Deputy Director of Purple Mountain Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Zou Yongliao, Vice Director of Department of Lunar and Deep Space Exploration, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Lin Hui, Head of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, Prof. Chan Kwing Lam from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Academician Wing-Huen Ip from National Central University in Taiwan, Mr. Fong Soi Kun, Director of Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, Mr. Xu Ao’Ao, Chancellor Consultant of MUST, and so on.

In order to strengthen cooperation with scholars of modern technology from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, prominent experts on space science from these four regions have been appointed as committee members. The establishment and development of the Academic Committee will contribute to boosting research of lunar and planetary science in China, helping it achieve the advanced level in the world.
