The University International College (UIC) held a Cross-Taiwan Straits Symposium in the title of “Cultural Influence in the Transformation of Higher Education Teaching and Learning”

From 19 to 21 March, 2015, the University International College (UIC) organized a 3-day conference in the theme of "Cultural Influence in the Transformation of Higher Education Teaching and Learning" at N211. This conference was co-organized by the Graduate School of Education, Peking University and College of Education, Chung-Cheng University and Educational Development Centre (EDC), Macau University of Science and Technology. Hundreds of scholars and researchers from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan gathered together, discussing the cultural impact on the transformation of higher education in the region and sharing their experiences in their practices. This international conference is one of the events to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Macau University of Science and Technology.

The broad theme of this conference was the "Cultural transformation of teaching and learning in higher education teaching and learning", which encouraged the scholars to explore the recent transformation of higher education, such as student-centered teaching and learning, the quality of student learning outcomes assessment practices, innovation (such as the impact on teaching MOOCs produced) and other relative topics. Four sub-themes emerged in the discussions: 1) the cultural impact (Impact of Culture on Educational Behaviors and Perceptions) philosophy of education and teaching behavior, 2) the transformation of teaching and learning in the context of OBA (outcome based assessment), 3) the impact of culture on learning (Impact of Culture on Learning-Centeredness), and 4) the impact of culture on teacher development (Impact of Culture on Faculty Development).
