The 21st Cross Strait Conference on Information Management Development and Strategy, hosted by Macau University of Science and Technology and sponsored by Macau Foundation, was held successfully at the Conference Hall of MUST on August 21st, 2015. Experts of Information Management from the Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan attended the meeting.

Cross Strait Conference on Information Management Development and Strategy is the platform for the experts from the four regions across the Straights to promote academic communication and share research achievement. There have been 20 conferences organized by different universities since 1994. Universities from the four regions take turns to host this annual conference, and since now, it has been organized in the following pattern: twice in the Mainland China, once in Taiwan and once in Hong Kong or Macau every four years.

“Application of IT Innovation and Service” was the theme of this conference, which aimed to get the experts and scholars of this field together for exploration and communication of the latest development of Information Management. Prof. Xue Huacheng from MUST, Prof. Yu Chang-Sung from National Taiwan University and Prof. Wynne Chin from University of Houston, USA were invited to give keynote speeches.

Prof. Xue Huacheng from MUST remarked that Information Management was of virtual industry, which was not limited by space and time. For example, shopping online is not confined to the real stores. Macau has the advantage of being a small city without suburban areas, and a high per capita GDP which is in the lead globally. Therefore, it’s on the right track to develop Information Management for the industrial transformation and sustainable development in Macau.

Prof. Xue also pointed out that the development of Information Industry depended on the government’s guidance, such as Digital Macau, Network in Macau, Environment Protection in Macau, Convenient Macau, Artificial Intelligence in Macau and Happy Hour in Macau. We need a plan to illustrate the happiness of living in Macau and the way to realize it. Second, the government should work out the policy to improve the environment, open the industry management right, attract the talents, and so on. In order to construct a goodinformation infrastructure in Macau, we need the government’s guidance and the non-governmental cooperation. In addition, to encourage the development of advanced appliance, science and technology parks can be established in which liberal policy and excellent service for entrepreneurship is adopted.

The statistics show that the conference received 97 distinguished papers, in which 29 were written by authors from Macau, 25 from the Mainland China and 43 from Taiwan. The papers cover various fields of Information Management, including front subjects such as Big Data, Internet +, Electronic Commerce, O2O application, Mobile Internet, Social Network, Cloud Technology application and Management Information System. After the opening ceremony, there were 8 sessions for about 100 experts and scholars to exchange ideas on the above subjects. The meetings were efficient and effective.
