M.U.S.T. Faculty of Chinese Medicine Held 2016 Exchange Meeting on Internship Work, Enabling Continuous Improvement of the Faculty’s Clinic Teaching Quality

On July 23, 2016, the Faculty of Chinese Medicine of M.U.S.T. held the “2016 Exchange Meeting on Graduation Internship and Teaching Internship” in Xinhui, Jiangmen, Guangdong; in total, 31 representatives, including the principals and experts from Nanjing University Of Chinese Medicine, Jiangsu Province Hospital of TCM, Nanjing Hospital of T.C.M., Suzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Changzhou TCM Hospital, Zhuhai Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Zhongshan, Jiangmen Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Xinhui Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, attended the meeting. By way of this exchange meeting on internship work, Faculty of Chinese Medicine had a summary of its work of internship over the past years, shared its management experience, made arrangements for the next-year students’ internship, and reached consensus with the accepting institutions of the interns with respect to the management of quality of clinic intern teaching, which would greatly help the Faculty in improving its quality of clinic teaching.

Vice Dean Zhou Hua addressed the Opening Ceremony on behalf of the organizer of the Meeting, where he gave an introduction of the University’s recent development and achievements in teaching and research, noting that the University is devoting itself to seeking for university accreditation, this is the first time that the University runs an internship exchange meeting in mainland China, and it is hoped that the participants of the meeting could exchange views and share ideas on such respects as supervision of teaching process, quality control, quality assessment, and innovation of teaching methods, and reach consensus on critical issues; he hoped that the Faculty could apply the ideas learned in its clinic internship so as to continuously improve the Faculty’s teaching standards and teaching quality. Dean Chen Xiao Long of the Xinhui Hopspital of Traditional Chinese Medicine spoke on behalf of the co-organizer, noting that Xinhui Hopspital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and M.U.S.T. Faculty of Chinese Medicine have partnered for 12 years in teaching internship, and he hoped that by way of this meeting, the Hospital could exchange views and learn from the experts of the participating universities and hospitals to facilitate the all-round development of the Hospital and improve its teaching quality. Dean Wang Yue of the 1st Clinic Medical School, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, also gave a speech at the ceremony, noting that Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine and M.U.S.T. have been in a long-term cooperation relationship, hoping to base specially at the requirements of Macau for Chinese Medicine talents and work out a more target-oriented way of training and way of teaching for Chinese medicine clinic internship by exchanging views with M.U.S.T., so as to provide more desirable training for M.U.S.T..

While at the work report session, Associate Professor Zhao Yong Hua, on behalf of the Faculty of Chinese Medicine, M.U.S.T., presented a summary of the teaching internship of the 2013 students and the internship of the 2011 graduating students, gave an introduction to the arrangements of the 2012 graduating students, and made a special point in detail on the work the Faculty is engaging on or is going to further work on with respect to quality control and quality assurance of internship, including further perfecting the internship plans, specifying the management documentations and records of the internship process, and promoting simulation assessment in assessing the interns’ performances, so as to systematically control and elevate the standards and quality of intern teaching. Director Xu Jun Liang of the Teaching Affairs Office, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, and Dean Wang Yue gave support to M.U.S.T.’s efforts and engagements in continuously improving the teaching quality, promised to provide desired cooperation, and suggested furthering the two parties’ cooperation in more areas. Along with Vice Director Gao Jin Biao of the Teaching Affairs Office of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, principals and teachers in charge of internship of the eight hospitals also gave presentations to their internship programs and the relevant management.

The Meeting had the honor to invite Director Zhang Xiao Su of the Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine to give a keynote speech titled “Position-specific Capacity Training for Clinic Interns”; she made a point on a four-dimensional training approach, namely, specified teaching management, pluralized teaching contents, diversified teaching outcomes, and individualized teaching methods, which received warm responses from the audience.
