First Scholar from Hong Kong & Macau to be Appointed As Editor by Internationally Acclaimed Pharmacology Journal

Earlier, Assistant Director of the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines, Associate Prof. Leung Lai Han was invited to serve as editor for internationally renowned journal, Pharmacological Research. She has accordingly become the first specialist of the Chinese Medicine pharmacology field across the two straits to be appointed as an editor of the journal.

The appointment greatly and rightly acknowledges Dr. Leung’s achievements in the area of Chinese Medicine pharmacological research. Dr. Leung has published papers on top journals such as Nature, Science, Antioxidant & Redox Signaling, Oncotarget, and Scientific Reports; the high standard of such papers has won her great acclaims from her national and international peers in the field.

In recent years, Chinese Medicine has grabbed exponential attentions from the international pharmacological research community; in particular, after Professor Tu You You’s discovery of artemisinin (also known as “Qing Hao Su”) won the Lasker Award in Clinical Medicine and the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, as a treasure house for discovering clinical drugs, has become more widely recognized and accepted. Last year, Dr. Leung was invited by the addressed journal to serve as a Guest Editor for a special issue titled “Advanced Research in TCM”, and now she’s been further invited to serve as a Section Editor for the Journal’s “Bioactive molecules derived from medicinal plants or natural products” for the purpose of moving forward with the development of the TCM pharmacology.

For this time, Dr. Leung is invited to serve as Section Editor for the following major areas: Bioactive molecules, Drug target identification, Mechanism investigation with -omics and computational technologies, Combinational therapy, Multi-targeting and network pharmacology, Herbal bioinformatics, Precision medicine of natural products, Evidenced-based research and clinical trials, and others. She is going to oversee the invitation and review of high quality papers from the TCM research field from all over the world; meanwhile, she is also going to attend the journal’s editorial board meetings on a regular basis so as to contribute ideas for the journal’s policies and development directions.

Pharmacological Research is a journal that is committed to publishing cutting-edge research in physiology, medicine, and pharmacology, and by doing so it aims to advance the development of pharmacological research. Papers published by the journal cover several major fields, including molecular, biochemical, translational, and clinical research. The latest impact factor of Pharmacological Research is 4.816, which has been growing steadily and has become a rising star among journals concerning pharmacology. The “Impact Factor” is a set of statistics of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) made available by the Institute for Scientific Information, U.S.A., which has become an important index measuring the impact of academic journals. The higher the impact factor is, the greater the number of citations of the article, and accordingly the greater its academic impact.

The Macau University of Science and Technology State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines was approved by the National Ministry of Science and Technology to be established on January 25, 2011, which is the sole state key laboratory of our country in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The inception of the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines has been an important measure for the Central Government to promote the development of internationalization of Chinese Medicine, and for Macau to carry out the adequate diversification of its economy and elevate its science and technology standard.
