M.U.S.T. Established English Studio to Build a Dynamic English-learning Platform

On November 8, 2016, Macau University of Science and Technology held a short but grand ceremony to commemorate the opening of MUST’s English Studio. The officiating guests include representative of the sponsor, Ms. Ho Kuai Leng, Member of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Foundation, Chair Professor Pang Su Seng, Vice President of MUST, Professor Pang Chuan, Vice President of MUST and Professor Sun Jian Rong, Associate Vice President and Dean of the University International College of MUST. The event was also attended by dozens of faculty and staff members as well as hundreds of students.

Vice President Pang Su Seng addressed the opening ceremony, noting that in today’s globalized society, English has become essential for all organizations and individuals that strive to thrive; all social sectors, particularly higher education, have to realign themselves with the increasing demands for higher English proficiency; MUST has always placed high value on English education and has rightly made great achievements in its English education; students of MUST continuously brought back prizes from regional and national English contests and the overall environment of the University for English learning has greatly improved; the English Studio is going to be another addition to the University’s existing extracurricular English programs; it is believed that the installment of the Studio will greatly help students to learn English more effectively in a more authentic and fun environment.

The University recruited two young vigorous Americans, Nicolas Nicosia and Alexa Rojales, to be in charge of operating the English Studio. At the ceremony, the two teachers gave a brief introduction of the Studio about its facilities, functions, daily arrangements, and other matters. The English Studio aims to provide a comfortable and dynamic English-learning platform and enhance the listening and speaking proficiency for all MUST students through a wide variety of activities including English language games, roundtable discussions, and computer assisted language learning in a fun and relaxing environment. In addition, the English Studio will also hold social and cultural events such as movie nights, themed cultural events of both Chinese and western holidays, and community outreach activities, so as to make available multidimensional learning opportunities for students and to contribute to the community.
