President Liu Liang Leads M.U.S.T. Management to Visit Ministry of Education;Warmly Welcomed by Vice Minister Shen Xiao Ming

In the afternoon of March 8, 2017, President Liu Liang of Macau University of Science and Technology, Vice President Tong Ka Lok, Vice President Jiang Zhi Hong, and Vice President Pang Chuan visited the Ministry of Education, accompanied by Deputy Director-General Pu Hai Long of the Culture and Education Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macao SAR and Deputy Director Chang Kun Hong of the GAES. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Vice Minister Shen Xiao Ming of the Ministry of Education, Director Liu Jin of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, Director-General Liu Gui Qin of the Department of Social Sciences, Vice Inspector Gao Run Sheng of the Department of Science and Technology, Vice Director-General Sun Hai Bo of the Department of Students, Standing Vice Director Zhao Ling Shan of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, Vice Director Yu Bin and Vice Director Wang Zhi Wei of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs.

Vice Minister Shen Xiao Ming spoke first on behalf of the Ministry of Education to extend warm welcome to the M.U.S.T. management led by President Liu Liang, Deputy Director-General Pu Hai Long, and Deputy Director Chang Kun Hong. President Liu Liang expressed gratitude toward the leadership of the Ministry of Education for making time to meet with the delegation; the president then gave an introduction to the University’s recent development, including the University’s visions and positioning and its achievements over the past years.

President Liu Liang noted that with the support of the National Ministry of Education and the Macao S.A.R. Government, M.U.S.T. has had significant growth in its overall educational strengths and its educational standard; the research team and faculty team has been greatly expanded and academic quality has been significantly improved. In addition to enhancing its existing State Key Laboratory and the Partner Laboratory of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University has launched Macau’s first-ever laboratory that’s named after a Nobel Prize winner. In addition, the University will install several key social sciences partnership bases, and the international cooperation joint laboratory of the Ministry of Education. Following President Liu Liang’s introduction, Vice Minister Shen expressed high recognitions of the University’s achievements. He further noted that the development of a university is closely linked to the development of the city where the university is located; Macau has been equipped with what is needed to support high-level universities; thus, he has full confidence in the development of M.U.S.T., and is willing to give full support to its development. Vice Minister Shen further pointed that the Ministry of Education would give the greatest support to whatever that benefits the exchanges of Macau students and mainland Chinese students.

Finally, President Liu Liang once again expressed sincere thanks to Vice Minister Shen Xiao Ming and other leaders of the Ministry of Education for their support and care to the University. He confirmed that M.U.S.T. would continue to uphold the educational philosophy of attaching equal importance to teaching and research, seize tight in hand two key factors: “quality” and “innovation”, and stride toward higher platforms with the support of the Ministry of Education and the Macao S.A.R. Government.
