2017 Graduation Exhibition of Faculty of Humanities and Arts – The International Workshop of Macau Modern Ceramic Craft Opened at M.U.S.T.

The Faculty of Humanities and Arts of Macau University of Science and Technology held the Opening Ceremony of the “2017 M.U.S.T. Graduation Exhibition of Faculty of Humanities and Arts cum the International Workshop of Macau Modern Ceramic Craft” at “MUST Like” in the afternoon of April 19, 2017. At that afternoon it also held the Plaque-Unveiling Ceremony of the “Research Center of Ceramic Culture” of Macau University of Science and Technology and Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute.

Officiating guests of the opening ceremony include Mr. Hong Bo, Division Chief of Department of Education and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macau, Mr. Lai Chan Keong, Member of the Administrative Committee of Macau Foundation, Ms. Sílvia Ribeiro Osório Ho, Deputy Director of Macao Tertiary Education Services Office (GAES), Ms. Leung Ngar Sze, representative of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Professor Ning Gang, Vice President of Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute, Professor Kim Hyeog Soo, Dean of College of Art and Design, Dankook University, Professor Zhu Le Geng, Dean of the Art Creation Institute of Chinese National Academy of Arts, Mr. Shibata Masaaki, renowned Japanese ceramic artists, and President Liu Liang, Vice President Tong Ka Lok, and Vice President Pang Chuan of M.U.S.T.

Vice President Pang Chuan addressed the Opening Ceremony, noting that the art design program of the Faculty of Humanities and Arts is now nine years old; it owns both an undergraduate sector and a postgraduate sector; over the years, the Faculty has had multi-layered, multi-dimensional explorations and practices in its teaching philosophy and teaching methods, and has made great efforts in better utilizing Macau’s cultural and environmental resources to develop a training model that is characteristic of both Macau and M.U.S.T. In this year’s graduation exhibition, the students approach “MUST DESIGN” from their own angles in a cross-disciplinary way, which has nicely interpreted the service value, innovative value, creative research value, and cultural transmission value of “MUST DESIGN” to Macau.

Afterwards, President Liu Liang and Vice President Ning Gang unveiled the plaque of the “Research Center of Ceramic Culture”; the two parties joint to advance the transmission and innovation of ceramic culture and art and to promote the excellent traditional Chinese culture. Following the ceremony, Professor Wang Xue Qing, mentor of the graduation design, and student representative Wu Jia Ti respectively gave a speech.

The theme of this year’s graduation exhibition is MUST DESIGN “45 Degrees”, which showcases the graduation art pieces of the University’s first batch of Master of Art Design graduates and the sixth batch of Bachelor of Art and Design graduates. The designing pieces mostly integrate Macau’s cultural and environmental resources with art, featuring the Drunken Dragon Festival, plaque calligraphy of ancient shops and stores, herbal tea, renovation of Macau Canidrome Club, renovation of the old Government Information Office building, rehabilitation of Shek Pai Wan wetland, the ocean park view of the eastern region of B area of the new claimed land, the landscape design of the traffic complex at Ponte 16, Phase 2 of Light Rail, etc..

The exhibition opens from 10 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday from April 19 to May 10, at “MUST Like” of M.U.S.T. (closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays), and features a great variety of art pieces, which have demonstrated not only intriguing techniques but also academic exploration; it will certainly propel Macau’s development of design and culture in a positive way; all professionals and the public are welcome to visit and view the collection.

In addition, the International Workshop of Macau Modern Ceramic Craft has invited renowned ceramic artists from Japan, South Korea, and mainland China to create art pieces at 9am to 12noon and 2pm to 5pm from April 19 to 21 in Ceramic Laboratory (C112) of the M.U.S.T.; public is welcome to visit.
