Ms. Wang Ya Ping and Prof. Jin Sheng Give Lectures on “China Dream‧Space Dream”

Organized by the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) and hosted by Macau University of Science and Technology, the “China Dream‧Space Dream” lectures were held in N101, Block N of M.US.T. in the afternoon of April 25, 2017. Ms. Wang Ya Ping, Deputy Chairman of All-China Youth Federation and astronaut, was invited to give a lecture on space exploration; Professor Jin Sheng, specialist in space science education of China youths and Vice President of Beijing Zhongyukongtian Information and Technology Institute was invited to give a lecture titled “Flying to Space”.

Mr. Ma Chi Ngai, Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), Mr. Xu Jun, Assistant Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau S.A.R., Mr. Cheang Kun Wai, member of the Administrative Committee of the FDCT, Mr. Chan Wan Hei, member of the Administrative Committee of the FDCT, Ms. Leong Pou Fong, Head of the Activity Support Services of the FDCT, Vice President Pang Chuan of M.US.T., Dean Zhang Du of the Faculty of Information Technology, Director Chan Kwing Lam of the Lunar and Planetary Science Laboratory, Assistant Director Mei Bao of the Space Science Institute, and about 400 teachers and students participated in the lectures. Chairman Ma Chi Ngai and Vice President Pang Chuan presented souvenirs to the two speakers.

Chairman Ma Chi Ngai of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund delivered a speech before the lectures; he noted that China’s space exploration has gone a long way and achieved great success, and that the mission of furthering this success in conquering the Universe lies on the shoulders of the youth. Continuous advancement in science and technology requires linking the youth with science and technology; thus, education of science and technology is essential in ensuring continuous development of our country’s space exploration. Today, we have the great honor to invite Ms. Wang Ya Ping and Professor Jin Sheng to give lectures and he is sure that we will benefit a lot from their lectures. It is hoped that the Macao youths could absorb the science and technology spirit demonstrated by the two guest speakers, and make greater achievement for Macau’s space science and technology development.

Vice President Pang Chuan of M.U.S.T. also delivered a speech; he remarked that the University has set up a Lunar and Planetary Science Laboratory, whose research areas interact closely with the national deep space exploration program; it has been productive in research of science application of the data of Channg’e 1, 2 and 3, and has become the first offshore (partner) key laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; the Laboratory also offers programs that align closely with the significant demands of the nation in high science and technology, guide and accelerate the national development in lunar and planetary sciences, and aim to develop talents for our country and for Macao, who can engage in science research of the moon, planets, and the earth and who are equipped with space science expertise. Today’s lectures provide knowledge on space travel experience and space science education, which will greatly enhance the youth’s knowledge and interest in the national space science development.

Ms. Wang Ya Ping gave a lecture

While giving the lecture, Ms. Wang Ya Ping shared her experiences of how she approached her space dream step by step; she also introduced the routine life of astronauts and their hard training, and how she persevered through tenacity and courage and passed the various difficult tests and selections and eventually fulfilled the missions bestowed on her by the motherland. She specially played a few video clips to help the students understand more clearly the training of astronauts and their life in space. She encouraged the students to pursue their dreams and wished everyone a good life and a bright future.

Professor Jin Sheng demonstrated scientific principles through experiments

Professor Jin Sheng gave an introduction to the general situation and planning of China’s space program; he cited astronauts’ real experiences and encouraged the students to give more care to development of space science and technology, and demonstrated scientific principles through experiments; the lecture engaged the students and stimulated the students’ interest in science education; Professor Jin Sheng motivated the students to study space science knowledge and contribute their shares to the national space program.
