M.U.S.T. Foundation and University Council 2017 Joint Meeting

Macau University of Science and Technology held the 2017 Joint Meeting of Board of Trustees of M.U.S.T. Foundation and University Council on June 10th; about 50 board members and council members attended.

The Joint Meeting was chaired by Mr. Chui Sai Cheong, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the M.U.S.T. Foundation. President Liu Liang presented a summary of the University in the past academic year and a plan in the 2017/2018 academic year. President Liu noted that the University had made new advancements and progresses in teaching, research, management, social services, and other respects. At the “Ranking of Top Universities in Greater China” released by the Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai Rankings) in 2016, M.U.S.T. once again entered Top 50 and was ranked 32nd; this testified the significant growth of the University in its overall educational strengths and its academic impact nationally and internationally.

University Council Chairman Zhou Li Gao gave the University Council Executive Committee report in 2016/2017 academic year, emphasizing that the Executive Committee is a gate keeper for the University on important issues. The University has been holding tight to the trends of international academic and social development and advancing itself constantly. All the committee members have shown tremendous enthusiasm and commitment toward the work of the Executive Committee, and acted with great sense of responsibility.

Vice President Tong Ka Lok introduced the financial status of the University in the 2016/2017 academic year, and explained the operational status of various funding and grants to the meeting members. Chairman Tsui Wai Kwan of the Supervisory Board of M.U.S.T. Foundation also briefed the committee on the supervision of the financial status of the M.U.S.T. Foundation, concluding that its operational fund was sound and its reserve was sufficient to satisfy the needs for future development.

Chancellor Liu Chak Wan noted, as the University continues to grow, the new teaching complex will soon be used in coming September, and The International School Teaching Building Phase-2 has also been completed. The M.U.S.T. Foundation is now studying and assessing a further plan for the overall campus development and new projects, including the Teaching Building of the Faculty of Humanities and Arts (Digital Production Center of Movies and TVs), the University Hospital Phase-2, and training hotels.
