The “2014 Macau Youth Debating Championship – the Youth Cup” was held in Macau from June 28 to July 11, 2014. Six local youth teams gathered and competed for the championship. With their compelling eloquence and dynamic teamwork spirit, the MUST debating team excelled and took home not only the championship but also the runner-up-ship.

Under the leadership of Coach Lei Iolon, the university debating team sent out two teams, Team A and Team B to participate in the competition. Team A’s members include Li Pinlei, Liu Jianhui, Wong Wanchong, Chen Mingyuan, Zhang Jiahua, and Wang Jieyu; Team B’s members include Liang Shuting, Xu Zhiwei, Yao Jiaqi, Luo Hongyu, Li Xiaojun, and Wu Yinxian. This is the first time for the university team to win not just the first place but also the second place.

The “2014 Macau Youth Debating Championship – the Youth Cup” was held by the Macao Youth Federation; the six competing teams of the youth group included Team A & Team B of MUST, the Study-with-MPI team, the Stride-to-Success team, the Life-Victory team, and the Marine-War team. The championship was divided into three stages: the preliminary round, the semi-final round, and the final round. Team A of MUST beat the Study-with-MPI team 3:0 in the preliminary round and then defeated the Marine-War team 3:0 in the semi-final round, while Team B of MUST sadly lost to the Stride-to-Success team 1:2 in the preliminary round but brilliantly won the Study-with-MPI team 3:0 in the semi-final round, and finally landed in the second place in the final list. Team B and Team A of MUST then entered the finale and fought for championship; the two teams had a fierce exchange of eloquent argumentation; in the end, Team A won Team B 9:6 and claimed the championship. The two teams therefore took both the championship and the runner-up-ship back to the university. The two debating teams have also won praises and recognitions from the judges; Li Pinlei, Wong Wanchong, Luo Hongyu, and Chen Mingyuan also won the honor of “Best Debaters”.

Through the Championship, the MUST debating team not only brought prizes and honors back to the university, but also elevated themselves in Macau’s debating field; they’ve made a new record and enabled the university to be better known among the Macau youth and the higher institutions of Macau.
