Fundamental Courses
Introduction to Arts (3credits)
Introduction to Arts serves as a basic course for art design. This course mainly introduces elements which include the essence and system of art, the content and form of works of art, the methodology of art appreciation, theories on art development, process and key techniques of art creation, with the purpose to help students understand the key terms and methodology of art studies, to obtain the knowledge of various phenomena and cultures concerning art, to develop students’ ability to appreciate works of art before they can explore and practice in the field of art creation.

Sketching Basics (3 credits)
The course is designed based on professional modeling and committed to training students to develop basic table sketch drawing and creativity, enhancing the students’ observation, analysis, and the performance of the basic capabilities of objective things, and training students for the pursuit of artistic creativity and individuality, cultivate creative thinking.

Design Sketching (3 credits)
The course is designed based on professional modeling. The sketch is the basis of all shapes. The course is committed to training students to develop basic table sketch drawing and creativity, improve overall artistic accomplishments, and enhancing the students’ observation, perception, expression and analysis capabilities. The training of art design thinking will lay the foundation for future professional courses.

Coloring Basics (3 credits)
The course is designed based on professional modeling. By teaching the basic principles of the system of color, the course trains students of color feeling and the ability to shape the use of color, students of color through the use of training to improve the comprehensive ability, and lays the foundation for future professional courses.

Design Coloring (3 credits)
The course is designed based on professional modeling. By training students’ observation and analytical skills of color, the course enhances students’ sensibility and performance, the cognitive ability of color changing, the aesthetic, the ability to integrate the color and use color for design, and lays the foundation for future professional courses.

Introduction to Design (2 credits)
This course is designed for fundamental theoretical courses. Introduction to design students created for a comprehensive introduction to the meaning and scope of design, understanding contemporary design applications, design thinking and the use of science and technology, understanding the development of the world's leading design and changes to master knowledge of the basic theory of design disciplines.

Plane Composition (4credits)
This course mainly introduces how to decompose, compose and construct ideal two-dimensional forms with the elements of a model which includes points, lines, and planes in order to help students find the various possible combinations of the basic shapes on a plane, and develop the logic and imagination in the process of modeling.

Color Composition (4 credits)
Color composition serves as the foundation of model design. This course introduces principles on how the elements of color are composed, in addition to the knowledge about the change of colors with the change of space, quality and quantity. The course also helps students understand the property, the visual effects and the psychological influence exerted by color language so as to improve students’ taste for colors and their skills to use colors in design.

Vertical Composition (3 credits)
Vertical composition serves as the foundation of model design and requires students to create designs. This course helps students study shapes and space to explore various vertical shapes and understand the philosophy and methodology of model design in three dimensions. The course is also aimed to improve students’ understanding and their imagination of objects in three dimensions, and develop their capacity to create three-dimensional visual images.

Computer-aided Design (4 credits)
It is through computer software to assist in mind designers design work the most authentic, the most perfect appear, is artistic design is basic skills of students one of essential. This course through the concrete examples of the design works with operation explained, enables the student to the related software functions are clearly cognitive ability and skilled operate ability, professional design for the future lay a good professional foundation.

Human Engineering (3 credits)
With a focus on the relationship between human, machine and the environment, the study of human engineering provides theory and methodology to solve problems concerning the efficiency and health of human beings in the human-machine-environment system. This course greatly assists art design, and helps students understand that the design should be based on human beings and the form should follow the function.

Hand Drawing (3 credits)
Hand drawing is not only an essential skill for a designer, but also the basis for art design. This course focuses on the training of the hand drawing for various designs concerning architecture, interior space and environment, models of industrial products etc. This course also helps students master the various presentations and skills of design and drawing in order to adapt students to the practical work.

Model Making (3credits)
Model serves as an essential part of design. This course helps students learn to skillfully select models, use tools, make and reconstruct models. The course also helps students make models to assist the design, express their creative ideas, receive the design effect through model making and then practically apply model making to the design of architecture, indoor environment and industrial products.

Basic Photography (2 credits)
This course not only develops students’ skills and creativity in photography, but also provides students with the resources and inspiration to explore and think, and consequently develop their cultural realization and the ability to express their ideas by taking photos. The course essentially helps students learn to utilize such ability to do various designs.

Design planning and Information management (3 credits)
Planning is to design activities designed to provide an initial basis for the design process to support multi-point and condition, results of the multiple stages of the design evaluation, selection, deepening and control of activities is designed to give the value of the cumulative results of the system, but also from Innovative sources of the deep structure of the problem solving process, is directed at the essence of the doctrine of design. Design objects and the information is related to access to information, analysis, processing of the scientific method. The whole courses is introduces the basic method of information management, keen to find problems, creative problem solving, learning about design methods.

Major Compulsory Courses
Major: Product Design
Introduction to Industrial Design (2credits)
This is a basic course in the discipline. It not only enables the students to grasp information concerning history, methodology and tactics of modern industrial design sector, but also develops the students’ practical designing capacity, and cultivates the students’ designing interest in line with social values. In addition, it enables the students to express themselves through designing and realize the commercial value of their works.

Product Presentation Techniques (4 credits)
Product Presenting Tactics is a compulsory course in industrial design. It covers the basis, tactics and basic training in products representing, and the relationship between computer-assisted diagram and hand-drawn diagram. It also teaches students how to draw effect pictures of product design and produce product models. It enables students to understand various methods in presenting products in a systematic way, and improve their capacity in presenting product design accurately, vividly and artistically.

Material and Construction (3 credits)
The course focuses on the common materials used in the industrial product design. It is an important intermediary course between fundamental courses and major courses. Through the combination of theory and practice, students will understand the basic shape’s cut and transition methods and basic principles of formal beauty. They will also understand the influence of materials, craft, and economic factors on the industrial product design.

Product Research and Development (5 credits)
This course emphasizes the concept that product design should be human-oriented and serving the society. It aims to acquaint students with the correct procedures and methodologies in product design and enables students to independently complete and improve their design. It also cultivates the students’ practical ability in filing and implementing product research, development, and design under the current commercial environment.

Creative Product Design (4 credits)
This course mainly focuses on the basic procedures of product design. The course will provide students a full description of the product design process and the various elements in product design, including style, concept, mindset, tradition, culture, and products’ meanings and symbols. Students will have a complete understanding of the creative product design knowledge.

Interface Design (4 credits)
The course focuses on the basic knowledge about information transmission and the application of visual symbols. Students are expected to apply the knowledge to the user interface design. They will understand how to use digital means to present the content of product interface design.

Comprehensive Product Design (5 credits)
This course will be given when students complete the majority of the program courses. As a preparation for the graduate work, the course emphasizes training students’ capability of creative design and practice.

Product Design History (2credits)
The course mainly introduces students to Chinese and foreign design history and
the analysis and appreciation of outstanding works. Students will understand the typical characteristics of the design history and the fashion trends of today's design work, the design aesthetics of traditional design, and the contemporary design aesthetic ideas. They are expected to increase their ability to analyze and interpret design works in terms of the design conception and design aesthetics.

Computer-aided Design for Industrial Products(4 credits)
This course aims to teach students how to use the advanced computer-aid three-dimensional software. It focuses on the three dimensional shape of products and innovative structural design. The course is a required course for the industry design. Students’ capability of three-dimensional analysis, representation, and creative design is essential and crucial for the industry product design.

Exhibition Furniture Design and production(4 credits)
This course seeks to enable students to master the basic principles of exhibition furniture design, understand the relationship between the product design and the exhibition furniture design. They are expected to design the exhibition furniture independently, know the basic methods of production, and ultimately produce visually pleasing and ergonomic exhibition furniture and space.

Graduation Design (10 credits)
This course is an integrated design curriculum to enable students to make comprehensive use of the knowledge that learned in the past few years in school, combine with a complete design issues, complete a comprehensive solution design topics training.

Internship (2 credits)
This course is an important practice training before students going to work. Students use the knowledge learned in school into practice in different companies and design units, and lay the foundation for future work.

Major: Landscape Design
Engineering Graphics (4 credits)
This course is a study of housing construction with the projection map and draw geometric problem solving theories and methods of technical courses, the main purpose is to train students to use graphics software to draw engineering drawings, Picture stories and space thinking ability, professional design for the follow-up Lay the foundation course.

Building structure and equipment (2 credits)
Course of construction, landscape and interior important technical basis of professional courses. Designed to train students to understand and relevant to the professional mechanics, structure, equipment and construction of the basic principles and national standards, provide technical support for the design practice.

Architectural Design (5 credits)
Architectural Design courses emphasize the perspective of environmental science to students as a whole view of the built environment, emphasizing the architectural design, interior design, landscape design fuzzy integration between the three, in improving the overall design aesthetic at the same time, students architecture, interior And landscape-scale integration of environmental awareness and the concept and master the basic principles of small architectural design and space to create practices.

Planting Design (3 credits)
This course will systematically introduces the concept, classification, ornamental characteristics, configuration and application, and other theoretical knowledge of landscape plants. It will enable students to understand the local common morphological characteristics, ornamental characteristics, and ecological characteristics of plants, and the basic methods and processes in planting design as well.

Urban Public Space Design (5 credits)
Urban public space, as an important symbol of modern urban civilization, is the important place where urban dwellers can communicate publicly and hold various activities. It has both practical and aesthetic functions. The course will provide students with the opportunity of design practice. Students are expected to understand the basic methods and procedures of urban public space design.

Landscape Tourism Planning (6 credits)
The course aims to help students master the basic principles of landscape tourism planning and understand the relationship between protection and development. The course will provide students with the opportunity of design practice. It will enable students to master the basic methods and processes in landscape tourism planning. It will help students formulate their own planning strategies and establish the awareness of sustainable environmental protection.

History of Chinese and Foreign Architecture (3 credits)
The subjects in different periods through the ancient and modern artistic achievements and its unique architectural style of the system introduced to enable students to more comprehensive understanding of the historical development of Western architecture, master the basic vocabulary of architectural design Western and design techniques, creative design for the future Basis.

Computer-aided Design for Environment Art(2 credits)
This course helps students learn to use the most up-to-date computer design tools and techniques so as to broaden the students’ horizons and encourage the exchange and innovation of computer design skills. Including 3d Max \ Vary \ Sketch up \ Photoshop to learn and master the high level of independent production capacity of indoor and outdoor renderings, the design of future performance basis

Public Art (3 credits)
Public art, as a new artistic idea which combines the concept of public, populace, and art, is an important part of the civic culture. It represents a new trend of the relationship between art and city, between art and populace, and between art and social relations. The course will pay great attention to students’ ability to design with diversified methods. It will enable students to study the urban space and culture and interactive relationship between environment and art from a broader and more humanistic perspective.

Garden Design (4 credits)
The course takes the private garden as the main object of study. The course will provide students with the opportunity of design practice and cultivates their ability of creative thinking and expression in garden design. Students are expected to use various elements to organize and construct personalized landscape space.

Graduation Design (10 credits)
This course is an integrated design curriculum to enable students to make comprehensive use of the knowledge that learned in the past few years in school, combine with a complete design issues, complete a comprehensive solution design topics training.

Through this course, students will enter the middle stage of the interior design program. This course will use different methods, including Macau classical case study, design space investigation, user needs analysis, building materials and decoration materials analysis, and creative problem-solving proposal, to help students complete interior design work with creative, cultural, and aesthetic values.

Hotel Interior Design (5 credits)
The function of hotel interior space is complicated and has many layers. It should satisfy the dual needs of its owners and ultimate consumers. Through this course, students will enter the advanced stage of the interior design program. During the course, we will do a field investigation on Macau’s world-ranking hotels. We will also collaborate with the international tourism program and make students better understand the operation of these hotels. Through the process of planning and design, information collection, and problem finding and solving, students will learn to how to design hotel rooms in a creative and aesthetic way.

Cultural Space Design (4 credits)
Students will have a deep sense of identification with and belong to the concept of cultural space. They will enter the fundamental stage of the interior design program through their understanding of cultural space. Through the lecture on interior design theories, case analysis, design space investigation, user needs analysis, building materials and decoration materials analysis, creative problem solving, and other approaches, the course will help students complete interior design work with creative, cultural, and aesthetic values. Students will learn the initial methods of interior design methods.

Exhibition Space Design (4 credits)
This course in conferences, exhibitions, fairs and other activities, the use of the construction, engineering, visual communication and other means, with exhibition facilities, high-tech products, the dissemination of the information and content to be presented before the public. Which involves the booth design, space layout design, graphic design, lighting, props design and the corresponding match between the pavilion design convergence. Exhibition design is a psychology of the audience, thinking and behavior have significant impact on the creative design activities. Through this course, students a basic understanding of the substance of exhibition design.

Display Design (3 credits)
Display Design is a basic course in this discipline. It emphasizes the designing elements and their systematic combination. It cultivates students’ capability of human-oriented display design to create different environmental atmospheres.

Major: Visual Communication Design

Brand Design (4 credits)

As a part of the CI Design System, visual identity design (VI) is external ,direct , transmissible and charming. VI design is the basic element of corporate logo design , which conveys the spirit and unity of philosophy through visual symbols and effectively promotes the company and its visibility and coporate image. VI logo design and visual identificationis the focus of this course.

Books Design(4 credits)

Books Design enables students to master the basic principles and design methods for designing books and publications,to understand the rules and technical requirements and to learn to analyze a variety of books and design-styles. Through the analysis ofthe book content and the interpretation of cultural phenomena, students will be proficient in the form of graphics, text, color and other visual symbols to convey ideas, temperament and spiritual design

Multimedia Design(5 credits)

Through this course, students canunderstand the basic concepts in the field of multimedia technology and mastera variety of multimedia software applications. In the era of rapid computer technologydevelopment, the course combines the knowledge and skillswith reality, practicing the multimedia approaches for design.

Display Design(4 credits)

Display Design is aimed for students to understand the beauty of form in Exhibit, apply the Design principles to create a unique visual space in the design areas of space planning, layout, lighting control, color scheme, trying to convey the design purpose accurately and well-planned. The combination of skills of using 2D and 3D plan and space softwares is the focus of this course.

Visual Communication Design History(2 credits)

Visual communication design is the basic theory curriculum for visual communication design. This course is to teach students the generation and development of design history and the main idea, style, genre, typical and representative works of designers. Students will have a general understanding of the nature, the scope and the development of visual communication design, which also inspires the students’ design thinking and lays a good foundation for shaping their own design styles.

Typography Design(4 credits)

This course is about arranging the literature form in typography design. It involves the application of font and font size,creation of font, organization of word -word, and word-pattern, including size, density, space, layout, color and even performance.Visual communication is one of the most important foundation courses.

Graphic Design(4 credits)

This subject consists ofthree parts, graphic language, creative graphics and graphical applications, which enables students to master the "objects to map" modeling capabilities. Through the creative application of line, shape, color,students search into the issues of performance and applications in modern design. Visual communication is one of the most importantfoundation courses .

Packaging Design(4 credits)

The objective of packaging design is teaching basic knowledge, design methods and techniques to aid product packaging. This course will train students’ figurative thinking abilities to carry out creative packaging design. Packaging reflects the brand concept, product features and consumer psychology and directly affects the consuming desires. It is a required course for visual communication.

Advertising Design(4 credits)

Advertising design is a comprehensive course combining of aesthetics and psychology, sociology and integrated marketing. In this course, students will get to know advertising conveying methods through multimedia platform. This course involves learning the basics knowledge of graphics, text, color, layout to develop the overall design capability for advertising design.

Computer-aid Design for Visual Communication(2 credits)

Computer-aided design, the basic skills necessary for art and design students, applies computer software to assist designers to shape ideas. Design software is explained by operating specific design works, which enables students to form a clear general view on design software, proficiently practice them and lay a good foundation for future design practices.
