Faculty of Information Technology – Our History and Mission
The Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) was established in 2000, as one of the first four faculties in MUST. Under the leadership of past and current deans, the Faculty has produced 100 Ph.D. degree graduates in the areas of Computer Technology and Application, Electronic Information Technology, and Space Information Technology; 400 MS degree graduates in the areas of Computer and Information Systems, Communication Engineering, and Space Information Technology; and 1300 BS degree graduates in the areas of Computer Technology and Application, Electronic Information Technology, and Software Technology and Application. Since 2010, faculty members have completed about 70 research projects, with additional more than 40 projects on-going, all funded by the Science and Technology Development Fund of Macao. Areas we have worked on include computer graphics and visualization, computer networking and communication, decision support technology, and knowledge engineering. We have also contributed to a research project for data processing of lunar explorations.
With the continuing development of the Faculty, we have now established an energetic and enthusiastic team of researchers and scholars. More than 41 academic staffs in the Faculty have diverse and international background and experience in education, research and teaching, ranging from USA, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland China. The research areas of these projects include: computer vision, computer graphics, machine learning, computer networks and communications, image and video processing, power electronics, applied mathematics, and space science.
Our curricula are based on a solid foundation with a balanced coverage of theory and practice, and undergo frequent update to keep the content current. we have also been gradually increasing the use of English as the medium of instruction. Our mission is to train students to become IT professionals who are hardworking, responsible, and good team players, with the skills and capabilities to contribute to the development of our local and regional societies, and to be able to survive in the increasingly competitive global market. At FIT, students will not only gain knowledge but more importantly understand the principles and importance of life-long learning.
