The National Postgraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling has been one of the themed events of the “National Postgraduate Innovation and Practice Activities Series” organized by the Degree and Postgraduate Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education, which is an academic competition on applied research of mathematical modeling and opens to all currently enrolled postgraduates across the nation. The series aims to stimulate innovation and study interests of the postgraduate community, to improve the overall capacity in building mathematical models and applying computers in solving practical problems, to broaden students’ knowledge scope, to foster innovation spirits and teamwork awareness, to facilitate extraordinary talents of the postgraduate community, to promote reform of graduate education, and to enhance communication and cooperation between higher education institutions and the industry.

In recent years, postgraduates of the Faculty of Information Technology have been doing well in the National Postgraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling and have won 13 national prizes (one 1st prize, four 2nd prizes, and eight 3rd prizes) supervised by Associate Prof. Cai Zhanchuan.
