The Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Information Technology Cheang Chak Fong was awarded the “2017/2018 Teaching Excellence Award”

The assistant professor of the Faculty of Information Technology Cheang Chak Fong was awarded the “2017/2018 Teaching Excellence Award” in recognition of his outstanding teaching performance. The Teaching Excellence Award aims to honour teachers who have outstanding performances in teaching, and their commitments in pursuing perfection in teaching, also to recognize their contributions to the continuous improvement of teaching and learning quality of the University. The winners will be role models to inspire and encourage teachers at the University.

Assistant Professor Cheang Chak Fong received his Ph. D from the Computer Science Department of Tsinghua University. He currently teaching computer network related courses. With rich teaching experience, he not only provides guidance and motivates students to learn actively, but also insists to have interactions with students in classes, and teaches according to students’ attributes. In academic research, he has contributed in the fields of computer network architecture and protocols, IPV6 Mobility management, wireless collaboration communication, network security, cloud computing, software definition network, etc.

The evaluation and assessment process of the Teaching Excellence Awardees was rigorous. The evaluation committee first conducted preliminary assessment to the nominated teachers and got a candidate list. Then, the committee further conducted comprehensive assessment of the candidates in terms of their teaching ability, teaching attitudes, and teaching portfolios, which was then followed by an overall assessment by class observation, face-to-face interview and review of students’ evaluation results in relations to the candidates. Finally, the teachers were voted at the meeting to win this year’s Teaching Excellence Award.

The Teaching Excellence Award was set up since 2008, M.U.S.T. has awarded more than twenty teachers, and their names have been engraved in the Honor Board for permanent display. The Award represents the University’s commitment in teaching quality improvement and dedication to enhancing the quality of learning and teaching in the University.
