Study Plan

I. Program Duration

The normal study period of Doctor of Philosophy in Intelligent Science and Systems program is 3 years. The maximum study period is 6 years (Students admitted in or before academic year 2018/2019, please refer to the rules and regulations as stipulated in the intake academic year study plan) .

VI. Study Requirements

  1. Students are required to complete the 3 core courses and 3 elective courses to gain 25 credits, including Literature Survey and Thesis Proposal (1st-3rd semester), three elective courses related to the research topic of dissertation to gain 9 credits (1st-2nd semester), Academic Activities to gain 1 credit (1st-6th semester), and complete Dissertation to gain 12 credits (3rd-6th semester)
  2. Students must complete three elective courses related to dissertation’s research topic and completed thesis proposal defense. Then, they can start their dissertation writing by following the faculty instructions. The length and format of the dissertation should follow the guidelines given by the School of Graduate Studies.
  3. Generally, to be qualified as a doctorate candidate, a student is required to publish at least two SCI-index journal papers as first author. If not, only the qualification is examined and recommended by his/her supervisor and evaluated by the examination committee of the institute, can apply for oral defense. The dissertation should be written in English.
  4. Students must attend at least ten academic activities during study.
  5. The dissertation should pass the assessment and be defended successfully.

VII. Study Time

The three elective courses should be completed in the 1st-2nd semester, Literature Survey and Thesis Proposal is taken in the 1st-3rd semester, Academic Activities are taken in the 1st-6th semester, and Doctor's Dissertation should be finished in the 3rd-6th semester.

Classes will generally be scheduled at nights (19:00-22:00) in weekdays or weekend.

VIII. Graduation Requirements

Upon approval from the Senate of the University, a Doctoral Degree will be conferred on a student when he or she has:

  1. Completed and met the requirements prescribed in the study plan of his or her program within the specific study period, and achieved a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above (excluding dissertation)
  2. Abided by the regulations of the University
  3. Cleared all fees and charges and returned all University’s property and equipment borrowed
