Graduate Team from Faculty of IT won 1st class award in the 14th China Graduate Electronics Design Contest (CGEDC)

A team of three graduate students from Faculty of Information Technology, Macau University of Science and Technology won the 1st class award, in the final of the 14th China Graduate Electronics Design Contest in Nanjing last week. Supervised by Associate Professor Xiaodong Li, graduate students Sheng-Zhi Zhou, Guo Chen and Ze-Ran Zhong, all from Power Electronics Lab, completed a project named “a half-bridge resonant DC/DC converter with hybrid control of frequency and phase-shift”. Their work proposes a new hybrid control for a novel DC/DC converter to reduce both switching loss and conduction loss, which is meaningful for improvement of power conversion efficiency.

Founded in 1996, the China Graduate Electronics Design Contest is a national competition for graduate students in all Chinese universities and institutions, which aims to promote integration of theoretical study with actual practice, and to foster environment of technical innovation and teamwork in the field of information technology and electronics. The activity is hosted by China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC), The Chinese Institute of Electronics (CIE) and Children & Youth Science Center of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). In the preliminary stage, there are more than 17,000 students with 3393 works registered, out of which only 12% (more than 1300 students with 400 projects) were able to proceed to the final in Nanjing. The contents of the projects are related with different technical fields including microelectronics, computer technologies, telecommunications and mechanical systems.
