M.U.S.T. Students Wins the 2nd Prize at the Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling 2020

At the annual Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM), M.U.S.T. Students Wins the 2nd Prize at the Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling 2020. The award-winning students are Sun Yuchao, Wang Yuyang and Zhang Xiubo from the Faculty of Information Technology. The 2020 CUMCM garnered nearly 130,000 participants, representing 45680 teams (including 41826 bachelor-degree teams and 3854 associate-degree teams) from 1470 universities/university campuses from China, the USA and Malaysia. To help the students prepare for the competition better, the Faculty of Information Technology set up an advisor team of modeling to provide training sessions, talks, and advice to the university students.

The Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM) is organized by the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. It’s intended to drive interests for students in learning mathematics and improve students’ comprehensive abilities in mathematical modelling and applying computer techniques to solve real problems. The conest requires students to compete as three-person (undergraduaes) groups to complete mathematical modelling, finding solutions, testing and verifying and thesis writing on assigned questions, which embodies the competitors’ abilities in studying problems and finding solutions and their teamwork spirits. Currently, the CUMCM has become largest-scale nation-wide university contest in basic subjects, and it also remains one of the world’s largest-scale contests in mathematical.
