The “Curriculum Construction and Teaching Innovation of the Discipline of Econometrics” project undertaken by Associate Professor Yu-ling Hsiao, Dr Xinyang Wei and Dr Kwo-Ping Tam from the School of Business won the first prize in the 2021-2022 Academic Year Teaching Achievement Award of Macau University of Science and Technology. As the team representative, Assistant Professor Xinyang Wei participated in the award ceremony held by the university, and the university President Joseph Hun-Wei Lee attended the award ceremony and presented the certificate.
Based on the AACSB accreditation and construction of the Business School, this project is oriented to cultivate innovative talents with international perspectives and guaranteed by the construction of a high-level econometrics teaching team. On the basis of the overall construction of the curriculum system, the upgrading of teaching content, the innovation of teaching methods and the promotion of teaching quality and internationalization of education, this project specialized in the cultivation of applied and research-oriented talents in econometrics for science and technology university, and it has actively promoted the overall level of teaching and research in the econometrics discipline of the business school.
The teaching achievements of this project are remarkable, and a complete curriculum system from undergraduate to doctoral levels covering multiple fields of econometrics has been constructed. In the process of undergraduate teaching and student guidance, the teaching and research team has cultivated a large number of undergraduate students that were admitted to the postgraduate programs of the world’s top universities, including Cambridge University, London School of Economics, University College London, Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University, New York University, Georgetown University, University of Zurich, Australian National University, University of Melbourne, University of Sydney, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, etc.
In the process of postgraduate teaching and guidance, a group of outstanding master and doctoral students stood out by publishing papers in journals such as Energy, International Journal of Energy Research, and Renewable Energy. Three papers were rated as outstanding research achievements and three papers were rated as tier-one research achievements by the university. Many master's students mentored by the teaching team have obtained admissions for doctoral programs in world-class universities, including full scholarships from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
In order to further implement the university’s teaching and learning development strategy and improve the quality and effectiveness of teaching, Macau University of Science and Technology has set up the “University Teaching Achievement Award” at the university level since the 2019-2020 academic year. The award aims to recognize teachers and teaching teams who have made outstanding achievements in reforming the talent cultivation mechanisms, teaching team construction, optimizing teaching/discipline system construction, improving teaching methods, updating teaching materials, ensuring teaching quality, and strengthening practical education, so as to promote the continuous innovation and high-quality development of university teaching activities.
