Greater Bay Area High-value Patent Cultivation Competition

The 2021 ceremony of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area High-Value Patent Cultivation Competition (Bay High Competition) was held in Foshan on the morning of January 5, 2022. Thirty-five outstanding projects were awarded and the signing ceremony was held to accelerate the coordinated intellectual development in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, and to create opportunity for international cooperation on these intellectual properties in the Greater Bay Area. This year's Bay High Competition attracted 902 entries, including 553 invention start-up groups, 233 invention growth groups, and 116 design and integrated circuit layout design groups. After preliminary, semi-final, and final assessments, 15 and 20 outstanding projects were awarded gold medals and Project of Excellence, respectively.

Chair Professor Yi Zhun Zhu, Dean of School of Pharmacy (M.U.S.T.), led the team who won the gold medal in the start-up group for "A novel endogenous sustained hydrogen sulfide releasing donor". This team was the sole gold medal winner from Hong Kong and Macao. "We mainly focus on academic research at the university. After participating in high-profile competitions, we have paid more and more attention to the value and social influence of product research and development. It is good enlightenment for our scientific research on how to get closer to the market and consider the originality of patents”, Dr. Zhu said.
