Opening of the 8th Macau International Communication Week
The Signing Ceremony of Journalism and Communication Education Alliance of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area cum The Launching of Digital Communication Power Index Survey
The 8th Macau International Communication Week co-organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Macau University of Science and Technology and the Center for Information and Communication Studies Fudan University (CICS) was inaugurated at N101 on April 13, 2022. The theme of the 8th Macau International Communication Week is “Digit, People and Cities”, which links to the progress of Macao’s digital city construction and echoes with the digital lifestyle under the Covid-19 pandemic. During the opening ceremony, the 2022-2025 term of the Advisory Committee of the Faculty of Humanities and Arts officially began. And the Signing Ceremony of Journalism and Communication Education Alliance of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was successfully held. Concurrently, the Forum of Journalism and Communication Education, the Greater Bay Area Media Forum, and the PhD Student Forum commenced on 13 – 14 April 2022.
Officiating guests include: Shi Shuzheng, Deputy Minister of the Education and Youth Affairs Department, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR); Chan Lou, Director of the Government Information Bureau (GCS), Macao SAR; Chan Iok Wai, Head of Department of Students, Education and Youth Development Bureau, Macao SAR; Chan Chung Yan, Director of the Secretariat of Administrative Committee, Macao Foundation; and Joseph Hun-wei LEE, Chair Professor, Vice Chancellor, and President of Macau University of Science and Technology.

Chair Prof. Joseph Hun-wei LEE, President of Macau University of Science and Technology, stated in his opening speech that “Contextualized in the Greater Bay Area, to build Macao as a smart city, the digital technologies and communication should be deployed in an environmentally conscious manner. During this International Communication Week, we will be engaged with a series of activities. The insights from researchers, practitioners, decision-makers, and other stakeholders will definitely contribute to shaping an innovative, efficient, and harmonious living space for us all.”.

Shen Guolin, President of Fudan University, Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs highlighted in his online speech that the “Macau International Communication Week has become a major cultural exchange cooperation between Fudan University and Macao. As an important part of the Macau International Communication Week, the Faculty of Humanities and Arts, the Macau University of Science and Technology, and the Center for Information and Communication Studies Fudan University (CICS) will officially launch the ‘Cities, Digit and Communication’ research project, focusing on the digitalization level of the community in Macao and exploring on digitalization in daily life.”.

Subsequently, the 2022-2025 term of the Advisory Committee of the Faculty of Humanities and Arts was officially inaugurated. During the opening ceremony of the Macau International Communication Week, Zhang Zhiqing, Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Macau University of Science and Technology, announced the launch of the Journalism and Communication Education Alliance of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Led by the Macau Media Research Center of the Faculty of Humanities and Arts; initiated by the School of Journalism and Communication, Jinan University, School of Communication and Design, Sun Yat-sen University, and School of Communication and Film, Hong Kong Baptist University, a collaboration agreement was signed with the School of Media and Communication, Shenzhen University, School of Journalism and Communication, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and School of Journalism and Communication, Guangzhou University. The alliance will support the establishment of Journalism and Communication disciplines in the Greater Bay Area, facilitate the academic exchange in the field of Journalism and Communication, establish a system for talent cultivation and teachers’ exchange within the Greater Bay Area, and strengthen the cooperation between Journalism and Communication disciplines.

There will be opportunities for participating teachers and students to interact with leaders from Nanfang Daily, Yangcheng Evening News, N Video, and Tencent from the media industry in the Greater Bay Area Media Forum. The communication week PhD Student Forum received more than 30 applications from PhD students around the world, including applications from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Peking University.
The 2022 JiMei Cross-Strait College Students Photography Contest was also launched simultaneously by Wang Guiting, Vice Dean of School of Journalism and Communication, Huaqiao University. The contest is co-organized by the Macau University of Science and Technology, Fujian Communication Society, Huaqiao University, Xiamen Federation of Literary and Arts Circles (XFLAC), and Xiamen JiMei Federation of Social Science Circles. Students from Macao and other regions are welcome to join.
