The Macao University of Science and Technology Leadership Group for Prevention and Control of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (NCP) held its 3rd meeting (video conference) on the afternoon of February 9, 2020. The meeting was attended by the university management and heads of faculties/institutes and departments and was chaired by Chairman of the Leadership Group President Liu Liang. At the meeting, the group members had an in-depth analysis of the NCP outbreak and weighed its trends and impacts, based on which carried out comprehensive deployment of forces to guard quality assurance for teaching and learning via “Cloud Classroom”, teachers’ and students’ health, campus safety, and preventive supplies against NCP, and cooperate proactively with the S.A.R. Government to prevent and control the NCP and develop research for prevention measures, treatments and products relating to NCP.

Government to prevent and control the NCP and develop research for prevention measures, treatments and products relating to NCP.After years’ development and growth, Macau University of Science and Technology now owns the Faculty of Chinese Medicine, School of Pharmacy, and the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, which work closely with the University Hospital, exert advantages of complementary integration of Chinese medicine and western medicines, and constitute a complete medical education program. As such, the University has become Macao’s first higher institution capable of outputting medical professionals to the society, generating medical research outcomes, and providing high quality medical services all at once.
In view of the unique advantages stated above, it was decided at the meeting to establish “Macau University of Science and Technology - University Hospital Scientific Prevention and Control of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia Task Force”, to coordinate and oversee matters such as news release relating to scientific prevention and control of NCP by M.U.S.T. and the University Hospital.
The task force will monitor the NCP development closely and act proactively with the Macao S.A.R. Government in its policies and measures to collect various data relating to preventive and control measures against the epidemic and other problems in the interest of the Macao residents, conduct scientific analysis, and release news with regard to scientific prevention and protection, health keeping and enhancement measures, prevention of diseases and drug research and development, scholars’ interviews, and post-NCP social resuscitation measures. It is hoped that the task force could become a new platform serving and helping the general Macao public in the fight against the NCP.
The task force is headed by President of M.U.S.T. and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Chair Prof. Liu Liang, who will serve as the director, while Vice President Tong Ka Lok, Vice President Jiang Zhihong, Vice President Pang Chuan, and Vice President Kwong Ying Wa will serve as deputy directors. Other members of the task force include Prof. Manson Fok, Prof. Zhu Yi Zhun, Prof. Zhang Zhiqing, Prof. Zhou Hua, Prof. Lin Guangzhi and Prof. Liu Chengkun.
