Dr. Yu Hai Jie shared the brief introduction and application of patch clamp technology

On the afternoon of July 13, 2021,Dr. Neher’s Biophysics Laboratory for Innovative Drug Discovery invited Dr. Yu Hai Jie to hold a seminar named 《Patch clam technology and its application in pharmacological research》 for teachers and students from the faculty of chinese medicine.

In 1976, Dr. Neher and Dr. Sakmann from Max-Planck-Gesellschaft created the patch clamp recording technique. This is a technique for recording the ion current passing through ion channels to reflect the molecular activity of single or multiple ion channels in the cell membrane. This technique and gene cloning brings great impetus to life science research.

At the meeting, Dr. Yu systematically explained the patch clamp technology from its development history, basic principles, operation methods and application etc. Dr. Yu believes that patch clump technology is a high-end technology in cell electrophysiology, and a powerful means for in-depth research in neuroscience, cardiovascular science, pharmacology and pharmacodynamics, functional genomics and many genetic diseases. It is essential for the study of ion channels, cell membrane receptors and ligands.
