Dr. Hou Pan Pan shared the brief introduction and application of patch clamp technology

On the afternoon of July 20, 2021, Dr. Neher’s Biophysics Laboratory for Innovative Drug Discovery invited Dr. Hou Pan Pan to hold a seminar named 《Principles and Applications of Patch-Clamp in Studying Ion Channels》 for teachers and students from the faculty of chinese medicine.

At the meeting, Dr. Hou introduced the contents of five aspects in detail: 1. Patch-Clamp working principle, 2. Patch-Clamp experimental platform and development, 3. Patch-Clamp recording model and basic operation, 4. Patch-Clamp application, 5. ion channel basic working mechanism and drug screening. 

Dr. Hou also introduced the relationship between ion channels and disease based on his research experience in the United States. For example, in cardiomyocytes, V254M mutation leads to heart disease, and through high-throughput drug screening, ML277 compounds have been found to specifically enhance K+ channel KCNQ1 AO state coupling. Through this introduction, students know that ion channels are closely related to many diseases, and Patch-Clamp plays an important role in the study of ion channels.
