news150827snews150827Prof. Zhang Du is going to take up his post as Dean of Faculty of Information Technology, MUST on September 14th, 2015. With many years’ experience in education and administration, Prof. Zhang has made great achievement and contribution in the research of computer science. It is believed that under the leadership of the new dean, we will strengthen the teaching and research, and promote the cultivation of more talents in the field of information technology for Macau.

Prof. Zhang is a tenured professor of Computer Science Department at California State University, Sacramento. He received his doctoral degree in computer science from University of Illinois, Chicago in 1987, master’s degree in computer software from Nanjing University in 1982, and bachelor’s degree in computer science from Nanjing University in 1977. He has been invited to give speeches at different universities and institutes, including Czech Technical University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Chongqing University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the Research and Advanced Studies Centre of the National Polytechnic Institute (CINVESTAV-IPN) in Mexico City.

As a two-term Department Chair of the Computer Science Department at California State University, Sacramento during 2004-2010, Prof. Zhang led the effort for the establishment of Information Assurance and Security Center, which was awarded “Center of Academic Excellence” in 2007 by National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security, USA. He also led the accreditation by ABET/CAC for both Computer Science and Computer Engineering programs in 2009, as well as curriculums revision, teachers’ academic activities, activities for securing research grants, and students’ development and learning assessment.

Prof. Zhang’s current research interests include machine learning (inconsistency-induced perpetual learning), knowledge-based systems, big data analytics, software engineering, and high-level Petri net applications, on which he has published over 175 academic papers. Because of his excellent research work, he has received several best paper awards at international conferences.

Prof. Zhang has served as conference general chair/co-chair for 25 international conferences. In addition, he is not only a senior member of IEEE, IEEE Society Technical Committee and ACM (American Computer Association), but also a member of several IEEE technical committees.
