More than 130 Firms Participated in 2017 M.U.S.T. Career Day

Macau University of Science and Technology held “2017 M.U.S.T. Career Day” in Block A and Block N on March 16 and 17. This year’s career day has been received well by the industry and has attracted participation of more than 130 firms and organizations, including 18 firms from Mainland China; altogether the Career Day has made available 3,500 positions. Accompanying the job fair at the same site, 36 career talks are arranged, which has been beneficial for graduating students to understand corporate cultures, job requirements, and interview skills.


2017 M.U.S.T. Career Day

The Opening Ceremony of the Career Day was held in the morning of March 16. Mr. Sou Chio Fai, Director of the Tertiary Education Services Office, Macao S.A.R., Mr. Hong Bo, Division Chief of Department of Education and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macau, Mr. Au Weng Chi, Member of the Executive Committee of the Macao Foundation, Mr. Ieong Meng Chao, Director of Macau Bureau for Statistics and Census Services, Mr. Chan Un Tong, Deputy-General of the Macau Labour Affairs Bureau, Mr. Xu Mu, General Manager of Hengqin Financial Investment and Entrepreneurship Incubator Management Co. Limited, and President Liu Liang officiated the Ceremony. Vice President Pang Su Seng, Vice President Pang Chuan, and deans of faculties presented souvenirs to nearly hundred representatives of participating firms and organizations, making the Ceremony a grand and happy occasion.

President Liu Liang gave a speech at the ceremony; he noted that over the past 17 years since Macau University of Science and Technology was founded, it has always devoted itself to training of high-quality talents, attaching equal importance to both teaching and research, and pursuing extraordinariness. For six consecutive years, the University has been ranked among the top 100 in the “Top Universities in Greater China”, which is jointly released by the Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Ranking; in 2016, M.U.S.T. was ranked the 32nd. The University has been supporting students to seek entrepreneurship or career development; six years ago, it established the “Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Planning” to specially serve for graduates’ entrepreneurship and career engagements; the Center has held various events such as career workshops and site visits to firms, which has strengthened the linkage and cooperation between the University and major corporations and also expanded the career channels and career market for the University’s graduates.


President Liu Liang gave a speech

President Liu Liang mentioned that, for the 2014/2015 Survey for Destinations of Graduating Students administered by the “Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Planning” last year, the University successfully reached 374 local graduates, 91% of whom have taken up employment mostly in areas like retail and whole sale, tourism, food and beverage, hotel, gaming and entertainment, and finance; 28% local graduates had secured a job before they graduated from the university, and 44% have found jobs within three months after their graduation; 57% graduates report that their monthly salary is in the range of MOP14,000 to 20,000 or above. As such, M.U.S.T. graduates generally perform well in the job market.

President Liu Liang noted, the University will continue to “move forward” the career development and entrepreneurship work of the graduating students and make it one of the regular important tasks of the University. While making more efforts to train students’ innovativeness and practical capabilities, the University will also continue to train students’ entrepreneurship and employment-taking skills, provide more opportunities for students to make contact with entrepreneurs, and invite more entrepreneurs to enter the University to get to know the ability and characters of M.U.S.T. students.

This year, there will be 2,100 undergraduates and 800 graduate students from the nine faculties of M.U.S.T.: Faculty of Information and Technology, School of Business, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Chinese Medicine, Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Faculty of Health Sciences, University International College, and School of Continuing Studies; these students will enter the society and contribute to the society.

President Liu Liang also expressed best wishes for the students, wishing that they can make a good plan for their career paths, train their employment-taking skills, improve their general abilities in taking up a career or starting an entrepreneur project, and make the fullest preparations to fulfill their aspirations and serve the community.
