Teachers and students from FC participated in the Greater Bay Area Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) Clinical Thinking Seminar

"Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area TCM Highland Construction Project: Greater Bay Area TCM Clinical Thinking Seminar and the Third National TCM Classic Thinking Training Course, Guangdong Province TCM Appropriate Technical Training Course" was successfully held on May 14-15, 2021 in Guangzhou Yingbin Hotel. The conference was hosted by Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Guangdong Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Association, and co-organized by Macau University of Science and Technology and Hong Kong Baptist University. Clinical thinking training courses have been held more than 20 times in the past. This is the third national training course and the first training course in the Greater Bay Area. The seminars include classics of traditional Chinese Medicine, classical acupuncture theory, clinical diseases, medicinal properties of traditional Chinese Medicine, and Lingnan medicine, etc., and is very valuable for clinical TCM doctors and TCM students to learn.

Dean Zhou Hua delivered a speech as a special guest. He congratulated the successful holding of the TCM clinical thinking seminar and training course in the Greater Bay Area, and pointed out that the formation and enhancement of TCM clinical thinking ability is aimed at enhancing the TCM clinical treatment and problem-solving ability. It needs to pass only theoretical study; case teaching and repeated practice can be formed. The Faculty of Chinese Medicine at Macau University of Science and Technology has been implementing early internships, multiple internships, repeated internships, multi-place internships; it emphasizes the training of Chinese Medicine thinking during the internship, and arranges famous doctors from internship hospitals. It trained TCM students with doctors from different universities so that students can form a good TCM clinical thinking and treat diseases and save people well in the future practice. Graduates from Faculty of Chinese Medicine are also well received by patients in their practice in Macau.

Since the establishment of the Macau University of Science and Technology, Chinese Medicine has been listed as a key development area. At the establishment of the University in the year 2000, Faculty of Chinese Medicine was established and the Bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine program was launched. Subsequently, a complete Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degree course system in Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as Master and PhD courses of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine was established. Macao has laid a solid foundation for the cultivation of talents and the sustainable development of the industry in traditional Chinese medicine. Since 2003, it has carried out extensive cooperation with Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, including teaching practice for undergraduates of Chinese Medicine, practice of Chinese Medicine for undergraduates of Chinese Medicine, clinical practice and research of postgraduates, online course construction, and cooperation in scientific research projects, etc. In 2020, academician Liu Liang workstation was established in Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This Thinking Seminar jointly held by the two parties further enriched the content of cooperation.

Associate Professor Zhang Guilin, Assistant Professor Yan Peiyu, and some students from the Faculty of Chinese Medicine attended the meeting. As a special guest, Assistant Professor Yan Peiyu gave a report on the importance of being familiar with the medicinal properties of traditional Chinese Medicine for clinical diagnosis and treatment of traditional Chinese Medicine. Associate Professor Zhang Guilin presided over the special report and discussion, which was widely praised by the participants.

Students from the Faculty of Chinese Medicine and Macau TCM doctors who participated in the conference said that they learned more clinical cases and experiences from the experts’ interpretation of TCM theories, and they will better integrate practice in their clinical work in the future.
