On the evening of March 18, 2022, the final round of the Third Lotus Cup Legal Speech Contest & Award Ceremony, hosted by Faculty of Law and organized by its student union, sponsored by the MUST Foundation, was held at University’s N212 Lecture Hall.
The contest consisted of two rounds. Six participants stood out from the first round held on February 25, and qualified for the final round. After fierce competition, Liu Zi Xuan, Wu Shi Yi and Wang Ruo Yu stood out and won the champion, runner-up and third winner of the Third Lotus Cup Legal Speech Contest respectively. Shan Xiu Ji, Song Yang and Zhang Ze Xiao won the Excellece Award. Meanwhile, Zhang Ze Xiao was voted as the Most Popular Speaker by the on-site audience.

Partner of Lou Sio Fong Lawyers & Associates, Lawyer Lou Sio Fong, Chairman of Macau Oratory Society, Dr Lam Chan Sing, former chairman of Macau Mandarin Speech Association, host of Radio Macau, special correspondent of Southern Finance Ms. Cai Yi Ying, Program Director Bi Jing Wei, Associate Professor Yi Zai Cheng were invited to be the judges of the final, Associate Professor Wang Chuan Hui worked as the chairman of judges‘ panel. Dean Fang Quan, Program Director Xie Geng Liang, Assistant Professor Zhong Wen Cai, Assistant Professor Zhou Qin and students of Faculty of Law attended and watched the competition.
In the five-minute keynote speech contest of the first round on the theme of “Autonomy and Solidarity”, Liu Zi Xuan, Wu Shi Yi and Wang Ruo Yu advanced into the championship battle by their outstanding performance. In the second round, the three participants had to improvise a three-minute speech on a randomly chosen topic. In the end, voted by all judges, Liu Zi Xuan won the champion, and Wu Shi Yi won the runner-up and Wang Ruo Yu won the third winner.
The judges heaped highly praise on the performance of participants and appreciated their performance and potential. In addition, they also made suggestions and shared presentation skills with all participants.

As one of the iconic student activities of the Faculty of Law, “the Lotus Cup Legal Speech Contest” has provided a platform for students to express themselves and show their talents. The contest has made great achievements in creating the atmosphere of public speech, promoting students‘public speech ability and enriching their extra-curriculum activities. Professional judges of the M.U.S.T and other institutions were invited to make comments and instructions on the performance of participants to achieve the teaching goal of emphasizing both theories and practical skills.
The on-site audience also expressed their feelings of watching the competition. They said that they had felt the warm atmosphere during the contest and also expressed their appreciation to the contestants who were courageous to speak on the stage. Many students said that they had learned a lot from the competition and hoped to enhance logical consistency, factual accuracy and ability of public speech and would endeavour to join in the competition next year. The Third Lotus Cup Legal Speech Contest & Award Ceremony was successfully concluded.
