On November 26, 2022, the M.U.S.T delegation participated in the "16th Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition" online at the University's R Hall mock court, and achieved third place in group competition and first place in defense memorandum.
This was the first time that M.U.S.T had formed a team to participate in this competition. The delegation consisted of three undergraduate students from the Faculty of Law and one undergraduate student from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, namely Fan Zhiyan, Wang Kexin, Wang Ruoyu, and Liu Lexuan, with Assistant Professor Wang Jia from the Faculty of Law serving as the coach.
The Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition is an English-language international moot court competition organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross. This competition was jointly organized by the China National Committee on International Humanitarian Law and the Law School of Lanzhou University.
The competition simulates the proceedings of the International Criminal Court and focuses on international humanitarian law, relevant international law and judicial precedents related to war crimes. In the competition, participating teams are required to submit pleadings for both the prosecution and defense, and engage in oral arguments.
This year's competition attracted 60 teams from universities in mainland China and the Macau Special Administrative Region. Starting from June 2022, the M.U.S.T delegation members engaged in independent study, information retrieval, and regular coaching from their coach, Assistant Professor Wang Jia, to finally complete the submission of the pleadings in English and the oral argument stage. This participation provided the delegation with valuable experience in the practical teaching activities of the Faculty of Law's moot court series.
