The Faculty of Law at M.U.S.T. successfully held the fifth edition of its "Lawyers' Sincere Dialogue" event, which included a talk on lawyers' professional growth and a ceremony for alumni scholarship donations

Macau University of Science and Technology's 23rd Anniversary Celebration series of events presents the "Sincere Dialogue with Legal Professionals" (fifth session): "Legal Professionals' Growth 'Skills' and Alumni Scholarship Donation Ceremony" (second session) held at N101 on the morning of March 24, 2023. This event is organized by the Faculty of Law of Macau University of Science and Technology, co-organized by the Alumni Association Federation of Macau University of Science and Technology and the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Law of Macau University of Science and Technology, with support from the Macau University of Science and Technology Foundation. More than 100 students from the Faculty of Law, as well as Chairman Chiang Siuling and Vice Chairman Tang Xi of the Alumni Association Federation of Macau University of Science and Technology, Dean Fang Quan and Director Xie Gengliang of the Faculty of Law, President Lao Chakkuong, Chairman Zeng Xinzhi, Vice Chairman Xu Bing, Secretary-General Lin Weiquan, and Deputy Secretary-General Xia Lu of the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Law, and Vice Chairman Lam Wengtim of the Macau Anti-Money Laundering Professional Association attended the event.

The event invited five outstanding alumni: Zhang Shu, a 2007 Bachelor of Law and 2011 Master of Law graduate from the Faculty of Law o of M.U.S.T., and a partner at KING&WOOD MALLESONS; Leong Inmei, a 2008 Bachelor of Law graduate from the Faculty of Law of M.U.S.T., and a lawyer at Cheang, Chao, Sou, Leong; Gao Qing, a 2014 Doctor of Law graduate from the Faculty of Law of M.U.S.T., and an associate professor at the Law School of China University of Political Science and Law; Zhang Jiawei, a 2016 Bachelor of Law graduate from the Faculty of Law of M.U.S.T., and a graduate student at the Law Faculty of the University of Oxford; and Zhao Zheng, a 2017 Doctor of Law graduate from the Faculty of Law of M.U.S.T. , and a deputy judge at the Civil Court One of the Higher People's Court of Henan Province.

Before the alumni sharing session, the Faculty of Law held a simple but grand alumni donation ceremony. Lao Chakkuong, a 2001 Master of Law graduate, generously donated to the Faculty of Law again after his donation in 2021, to support students' further studies. Dean Fang Quan expressed his gratitude to Lao Chakkuong on behalf of the Faculty of Law, saying that his generous donation was not only an encouragement to current students but also a support to the university education cause, reflecting his deep affection for his alma mater. Since the establishment of the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Law in 2020, many alumni have returned to the university in various forms to support its development. The Faculty of Law hopes to maintain close contact with its alumni and work together towards a brighter future.

During the sharing session, Zhang Shu shared his learning experience at M.U.S.T. Faculty of Law and his work experience at King & Wood Mallesons, as well as his thoughts on what kind of graduate from M.U.S.T. Faculty of Law he wanted to be, how to face diverse choices, and what kind of effort he should put in during his time at M.U.S.T. He also took the opportunity to exchange ideas with his fellow students on how to be more competitive in the increasingly challenging legal environment.

Leong Inmei shared her journey from campus life to successfully becoming a registered lawyer in Macau, pointing out that success is not accidental, and that a lawyer's growth is inseparable from university education and personal effort. She encouraged future legal professionals to make the most of their four years of university life, not only by learning solid legal knowledge but also by developing personal qualities and cultivating a habit of continuous learning, while always keeping in mind the university motto.

Gao Qing believed that choices are important, but persistence is even more crucial. Good choices are half the battle, but persistence is what ultimately leads to success. Choosing wisely requires foresight and an understanding of one's own strengths and weaknesses.

Zhang Jiawei talked about how the development of technology, such as the ChatGPT algorithm, has brought significant challenges to the legal profession and may even replace some legal jobs. He suggested that legal professionals need to adapt to the changing landscape, and that knowledge acquisition and skill development should be in line with technological developments.

Zhao Zheng mentioned that the university's philosophy of "cultivating talents" provides a wide learning platform for legal research. Students should seize the opportunity, cherish their time in school, pay attention to basic subjects, cultivate multi-perspective thinking, hone their professional skills, and establish a lifelong learning mindset, to contribute to the construction of a rule-of-law society in China.

The Faculty of Law Alumni Association held a sharing and interactive session, chaired by Director Zeng Xinzhi. During the interaction, students actively exchanged ideas with the alumni. This event provided an opportunity for students to have close communication with outstanding alumni, enabling them to learn from their experience and establish a solid foundation for their academic and career development during their time at M.U.S.T.

During the university's anniversary, alumni from the Faculty of Law returned to campus, including doctoral graduates such as Zhu Dongxing from the class of 2013, Song Chengzhan, Zhang Jing, and Shen Wei from the class of 2014, Wang Daowei, He Shukui, and Cheng Yushu from the class of 2015, and undergraduate graduates such as Wan Shan Hong from the class of 2008, Jiang Ke, Zheng Lin, Hu Jin, Liang Shuyuan, Lei Weiqi, Chen Yuxian, and Deng Kemiao from the class of 2010, and Zhang Dingkang from the class of 2014. The alumni reported on their recent developments and expressed their dedication to the Faculty of Law, hoping to contribute to the institution's cultivation by achieving the best results. The Faculty of Law cares about the development of every graduate and holds relevant activities on the annual alumni return day to enhance communication between the alumni and the institution. Through the Faculty of Law Alumni Association and the University Alumni Association platform, the institution also disseminates its latest developments to the alumni, hoping to gain their continued attention and support for the institution's growth.
