This 2-day forum event was chaired by the Macau University of Science and Technology: Faculty of Health Sciences on 26th -27th November, 2011
A brilliant tele-robotic surgeon dubbed “The Father of Robotic Surgery in Asia”, Prof Gao Changqing from 301 PLA General Hospital participated in our forum as one of our keynote speakers.
He was joined by other leading experts in his field. Chief among them were Dr Albertino Damasceno from Mozambique, a cherished surgeon from University of Maputo, Prof Maurice Leung, a world renowned pediatric cardiologist, and Dr Chris Wong, the pre-elect President of Hong Kong College of Cardiology.
Professor Gao Changqing was truly an ambassador of Chinese high science at our Sino-Luso International Medical forum. For example, in 2011 Professor Gao trained up the entire robotic surgical team from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Moreover, Professor Gao has performed over 500 operations, especially in robotic minimally invasive heart surgery. Amongst these tough procedures, five of them are recognized as “First in the World”. Professor Gao is an associate Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Robotic Surgery of USA and has successfully published over 230 journal articles and 5 books in the areas of mitral, aortic valve repair and replacement, and heart transplantation.
The purpose of all sessions was to improve the quality of current techniques in handling cardiovascular diseases. The participants gave a comprehensive presentation of trends in relations to the latest developments of this very special field; namely patient safety and new tele-robotic technologies.
Lastly, Dean of Faculty, Dr. Manson Fok and Dr Mario Evaro, the Chairperson of the Macau Cardiology Association and Head of Cardiology Department at the Hospital Centre S. Januario presided over the entire forum and gave an overview of the current approach to cardiovascular diseases here in Macau. They also announced a brand new DSI heart center to be officially opened in the University Hospital here on the MUST campus.
