Macau's 8th Sino-Luso International Medical Forum hosted the largest Medical Simulation training workshops in Macau on 13 August (Chinese Endoscopy Doctors Association Day), 20 August (Nurses Day), and on 12 September.

These 3-days of training, particularly aimed at colonoscopy for local junior doctors held at the Center of Excellence for Medical Professionals Development at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST).

It is titled, “Clinical Simulations in Medical Education”, and features top doctors and experts from Australia, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau.

They discussed the latest advancements in simulation-based healthcare training and education for Macau's front-line healthcare providers.

Among the noted trainers is Dr. Ross Horley, Adjunct Lecturer, School of Medicine, University of Notre Dame Australia and Director, simulation and training.

Dr. Horley commented, “This is a great opportunity to share with many experts in the region in presenting simulation based education and skills training programs, this will foster much needed collaboration in research in newer technologies and deployment of simulation skills training and to provide better patients care practices and clinical outcomes.”

Another top presenter was Stuart Gall, an expert in ultrasound simulation skills training from the UK. He brought two of the latest ultrasound simulation systems to Macau.

Gall said, “This will be my first time to be in Macau, I’m so looking forward to showcase this unique simulation system and to demonstrate how we can transfer skills results measured in the form of advanced simulation training programs.”

An expert trainer from the Netherlands, Prof. Joeri Post, deployed two First-in-Asia Arthroscopy simulators. Attendees participated a variety of hands-on and personal presentations and workshops throughout the day from these experts.

Prof. Zhang Yangde, the Chairman of Chinese Endoscopy Doctors Association, brought a strong delegation of 40 medical experts, surgeons and healthcare decision makers from the Chinese mainland for this important event.

The forum's organizer Dr. Manson Fok, Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences and President of Sino-Luso International Medical Forum, announced exciting news at the forum.

Dr. Fok added, “Our Faculty of Health Sciences has been expanded. From next year we will be providing a 2-year diploma in advanced western medicine at our simulation facilities here at MUST. We also have many new simulation programs that have been included as electives as well.”

This 8th Sino-Luso International Medical Forum event was chaired by the Macau University of Science and Technology: Faculty of Health Sciences and organized by the Macau Healthcare Management and Promotion Association (MHMPA). It was supported by the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China, as well as a list of outstanding healthcare organizations and Portuguese speaking associations here in Macau.
