Sino-Luso International Medical Forum (Series Fifteen) Advancing Surgical Care through Innovations, Education and Leadership

National Health and Family Planning Commission Vice Minister Dr. Chan Xia Hong to attend signing ceremony at the 15th Sino-Luso International Medical Forum in Macau.

The 15th Sino-Luso International Medical Forum is proud to host Dr. Chan Xia Hong, Vice Minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC).

Running from September 20 - 22, this 3-day event will see Dr. Chan Xia Hong attending the signing ceremony. The Ministry of Health, Health Human Resources Development Center, PRC and Faculty of Health Sciences, MUST have agreed that an important link between them will be established through this collaboration agreement.

Dr. Manson Fok, who is also the president of the Sino-Luso International Medical Forum, remarked, “We are delighted to have brought this event to the attention of the new NHFPC (formerly Ministry of Health). With the Vice Minister Dr. Chan’s busy schedules, we’re honoured that this important official can actually accommodate our event this time.”

Dr. Fok continued, “We share a number of common interests and practices. We will work together in developing integrated plans for medical education and training programs in providing advice to policy makers in mainland China.”

The Ministry of Health’s (MOH HRC) Deputy Director, Dr. Zhang Junhua, praised the Sino-Luso Forum, noting, “MOH HRC recognises the importance of high quality training. It is directly related to better patient outcomes and survival. Therefore, we have collaborated with many overseas institutions such as Harvard and Stanford to strengthen the whole continuum of care and provide an integrated system. We treasure the opportunity of this collaboration plan with the Faculty of Health Sciences, MUST. We will continue to review and enhance our work processes, to improve the standards of medical education.”

Deputy Director Dr. Zhang added, “This is a known fact that good training programs improve the process of care provided by healthcare services, also improving clinical outcomes of a wide spectrum of clinical conditions. We support forum of this kind to improve the quality of healthcare services across the board.”

This three-day session will also see creation of a broad interdisciplinary platform for the constructive dialogue between practitioners and policy makers. For this, a top level Interdisciplinary Expert Panel Discussion will be held after the signing on Saturday the 20th in the afternoon at the MGM Grand Macau at 4:00 p.m.

Panelists include Dr. Wang Liji, Deputy Director, Department of International Cooperation, NHFPC, Prof Wang Shan, President of Peking University, People’s Hospital, Prof. Ian Richie, President of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Prof. Vitor Manuel Ribeiro, Editor-in-Chief, the Portuguese Surgical Journal, and Dr. Zhang Junhua, the Deputy Director of Ministry of Health, Health Human Resource Center, NHFPC, PRC.

The forum program includes keynote speaking session and conference dinner in the evening of 21st Sept. at the MGM Banquet Hall. Prof. Johnson Lau from California, USA, Chairman of Kinex Pharmaceuticals will present his interesting topic “A Roadmap to the Development of a Successful Biotechnological Hub in Macau”.

The academic programs of this forum will be chaired by the Faculty of Health Sciences, (MUST) and organized by the Macau Healthcare Management and Promotion Association (MHMPA). Moreover, they are being assisted by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Chinese Medical Doctor Association.

This special signing will take place at the Assembly Hall, MUST Campus on the 21st Sept at 12:30 noon.
