The course is divided into 2 sessions which was held in 23 and 24 November 2013. The workshop was chaired by the Macau University of Science and Technology: Faculty of Health Sciences and organized by the Macau Healthcare Management and Promotion Association (MHMPA).
Experienced Clinical communication skills tutors will provide an integrated approach to teaching these skills. The teaching of basic communication skills will be addressed in simulated clinical consultations to ensure that the relevance of generic skills is understood within the context of medical practice. These simulated consultations will also be used to address concepts of the medical history and the patient-centred approach. Excellent communication in those brief moments with patients will ensure that the most is made of that time, and that the patient experience is exceptional. Several steps can be taken to improve communication and to enhance the doctor-patient relationship – and to improve satisfaction and outcomes.
Trainees will be required to attend all sessions and to have completed preparatory activities. The students will be expected to reach a satisfactory level of performance based on professional assessment in simulated clinical consultations. Students will also be required to satisfactorily complete the communications assignment.
In this certificate course, experienced clinical communications skills tutors have provided an integrated approach to teaching these skills which are very important when health care professionals face patients who have instable emotions.
