Students from Macau University of Science and Technology Won Six Awards at the 14th “Challenge Cup” National Undergraduate Curricular Academic Science and Technology Contest

The final of the 14th “Challenge Cup” National Undergraduate Curricular Academic Science and Technology Contest was held at Guangdong University of Technology. The contest was hosted by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, China Association for Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, All-China Students’ Federation and People’s Government of Guangdong Province, and co-hosted by Guangdong University of Technology and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. There were 783 works from 318 universities competing in it.

Led by Associate Professor Zhou Hua, Vice Dean of Faculty of Chinese Medicine, and Professor Liang Yong, Assistant Dean of Faculty of Information Technology, 11 students from MUST went to Guangzhou for the competition. After a three-day exhibition and the judges’ evaluation, they won a first prize, 3 second prizes and 2 third prizes.

MUST chose 6 works from Faculty of Chinese Medicine, Faculty of Information Technology, and School of Business for the contest. In the end, Wang Xin Ran and Chen Wi Qian’s “A Market Research on Traditional Chinese Medicine Patent Prescription and Traditional Medicine of Pharmacies in Macau” won the first prize. Liu Jian Xin’s “The Use of Stauntoside B from Chinese Medicine Bai Qian (Rhizoma Cynanchi Stauntonii) on Treatment of Inflammatory Diseases”, Xia Liang Yong and Lin Xu Xin’s “Application of Low-Rank and Sparse Decomposition Based on S12 and L12 on Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging”, and Shen Zhang Le, Fan Qiao and Yu Shan Wen’s “A Research of the Development of Smart Shoes Based on Arduino" won the second prizes. Liu Zhi Zhu, Tan Tian Qi, Huang Qing Wen, Cui Hao and Li Jiu Yan's "A Research of the Causes of Production Areas Change of Huang Qi with Modern and Historical Data of Geography and Climate" and Qin Zhi Jun, Chen, Yi Quan, Li Yu Fei, Xian Wei Shen, Li Shi Bo, Li Rui, Liao Zhi Jian and Lv Cheng Xi's "Self Service Printer of DIY Postcard" won the third prizes.

Held every two years, the "Challenge Cup" is the biggest and the most influential competition for university students on science and technology in China. For many years, MUST has encouraged its students to take part in it. The latest achievement is a proof of the university's devotion to promoting the development of education and research. By sending students to compete in national contests like the “Challenge Cup”, the university aims to broaden the students’ horizon and cultivate competent and moral talents who can meet the demands of scientific and economic globalization.
