MUST Held a Lighting Ceremony to Launch the Celebration of the 16th Anniversary

Macau University of Science and Technology is having its 16th anniversary around the corner, to celebrate which, President Liu Liang, Vice President Pang Su Seng, Vice President Chen Xi, Vice President Tong Ka Lok, teachers’ representative Assistant Prof. Kwok Shu Hung, Alumni representative Ms. Liang Yan Mei, and representative of the Students’ Union Mr. Chen Jia Hong, gathered in front of the Administrative Building of MUST and held a brief but grand lighting ceremony in the afternoon of February 29th. The event unveils a whole series of activities that will be held to celebrate the University’s anniversary month; MUST teachers and students happily gathered in front of the Administrative Building to witness the special moment, which was warm and harmonious.

When addressing the Ceremony, President Liu Liang noted that MUST has been ranked among the Top 100 Universities in the Greater China for five consecutive years, and last year for the first time, MUST entered the Top 50, ranked 46th, which has laid a solid foundation for the University to be developed into a renowned higher institution in the Asia-Pacific region. Such development and advancements could not have happened without the tremendous support of the Central Government, the Macau S.A.R. Government, the Macao Foundation, the MUST Foundation, the University Council, and the University Advisory Committee, as well as the joint efforts of all the University staff and students.

In 2015, the University has made new progresses and development in talent-fostering, academic research, social services, and other regards. The University continually brought in a great number of excellent teachers and leading figures of different academic fields, which has greatly enhanced the University’s management team and faculty team; the University responded closely to the demands of social and economic development and opened several new programs, which has further optimized the University’s program structure and improved the University’s educational standards; the University also made greater efforts in advancing academic research, and the number of journal papers and that of patents have both made new record; additionally, the University has also newly installed the Macau Academy of Cinematic Arts and the Macau Environmental Research Institute, which has expanded the University’s teaching and research categories; the University has also performed well in student admission, with the quality of the admitted students greatly improved; the University’s young students brought home a great number of academic and non-academic awards from competitions and contests of various kinds; the University has also put in efforts in moving forward research achievements to serve for the development of Macau’s society and economy, and a number of patents are already in the process of commercialization and industrialization.

March of 2016 is the month of the University’s 16th anniversary, which is also an important moment for the university to summarize its past achievements and prepare for future further development. It is hoped that the University faculty and students continue to devote themselves to work for greater progresses, uphold the University’s motto, “dedication to practical studies, enhancement of knowledge, ability and quality”, act on the University’s mission, “to promote cultural exchange, foster talents, facilitate economic development and further social progress”, seize tightly the three keys, “quality”, “innovation”, and “effectiveness”, attach equal importance to both teaching and research, greatly promote quality education and excellent research, greatly advance industrialization of research outcomes, greatly move forward internationalization, foster excellent talents that love the motherland and love Macau, that have both innovative spirit and applied skills, and most importantly, that can contribute to the stability of Macau’s society and the moderately diversified and sustainable development of Macau’s economy, and therefore enable the University to move closer towards becoming a renowned university in the Asia-Pacific region.

President Liu Liang, together with all the other officiating guests, switched on the MUST-shaped lights that were placed on top of the front gate of the Administrative Building, and announced the anniversary celebration to be officially launched. The University Art Troupe performed the University anthem; blessed by the beautiful music and the MUSTers’ best wishes, the University had its 16th birthday celebration warmly and brightly started.
