Two M.U.S.T. Professors Identified as “Highly Cited Researchers” Three Years in a Row

Earlier, the Thomson Reuters, USA, released the name list of the “Highly Cited Researchers 2016”, which covers 21 disciplinary fields of both natural sciences and social sciences. By tabulating citations of all the papers indexed by the SCI and the SSCI over the past decade, the list identifies altogether 3266 most highly cited scientists (among the top 1%), of whom there are 196 scientists that are from China (including Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan).

Prof. Li Zhi Wu and Prof. Li Song Xiao from the Faculty of Information Technology and the Macau Institute of System Engineering, M.U.S.T. successfully entered the list respectively in the engineering field and in the mathematics field; they are also the only two scientists from the Macau S.A.R. to be ranked in the list.

Prof. Li Zhi Wu, in his early years, once won the German Humboldt Scholarship; he engaged in visiting studies first and later in Canada, Israel, Germany, France, Turkey, Saudi Arab, and Italy, and kept in close academic contact with scholars from 17 countries or regions. His main research directions are discreet event system, production planning and dispatch, and smart computing. He’s published more than 100 journal papers, and the highest count for a single SCI-indexed paper of his is 270 times. His research outcomes have been applied by over 260 research institutions from 43 countries or regions, including Hewlett-Packard Company (HP), General Motors, General Electric Company, and other renowned enterprises. Based on his studies in Petri net and its applications in automatic manufacturing system, Prof. Li Zhi Wu was recognized as a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), USA.

Prof. Li Song Xiao’s main research fields are the operator theory of analytical function spaces, complex analysis, and functional analysis. He’s published more than 100 journal papers, including more than 80 SCI-indexed papers. He won the “2008 China’s Top Hundred Most Influential International Academic Papers” award, the second prize of the Guangdong Science and Technology Awards, and other honors and awards. Currently, he serves as member of the editorial board of Journal of Mathematical Inequalities and is a reviewer of Mathematical Reviews; in addition, he also holds other academic titles.

Since they joined Macau University of Science and Technology, Prof. Li Zhi Wu and Prof. Li Song Xiao have been ranked among the highly cited researchers list for three years in a row. This also means that Macau University of Science and Technology is gaining international influence in the relevant research fields, and the two professors’ research achievements have made significant contributions for the development of such research areas.
