FHTM New Guest House Officially Opened

The new Guest House of Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) officially opened its doors to the public on September 19th, providing students in Hotel Management Program a practical and authentic educational platform for internship and experiential learning. Among those who attended the opening ceremony of the new Guest House are Vice President Tong Ka Lok, Vice President Pang Chuan, Vice President Lin Zhijun, Associate Vice President Kwong Ying Wa, Associate Vice President Sun Jianrong, deans of faculties, directors of some administrative departments and some faculty staff members.

A welcoming front desk

The new Guest House is located on the ground floor of Building L, consisting of 25 guest rooms, two being VIP rooms and one housekeeping demonstration room. Created with reference to the design of regular hotels, equipped with a full range of facilities, the guest rooms can even compete with those in the star-rated hotels. Simplicity, practicality and comfort are the features of the design. The overall style of the Guest House is comfortable, welcoming and soft-toned, warm and cozy, peaceful and quiet. It will not only provide comfortable accommodation for our visiting and exchange scholars, but also serve as the ideal learning and practicing venue for our Hotel Management students.

Since its establishment in 2007, Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management of M.U.S.T. has been offering diverse and quality degree programs to the local students, including Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and Doctor’s degree programs in the fields of Tourism Management, Hotel Management and Food and Beverage Management, Culinary Arts included. Besides the new Guest House, we also have the leading teaching restaurant, the Seasons, and the four newly built and comprehensively equipped culinary laboratories that were recently put into operation. They all provide our students the best possible learning and practicing conditions by simulating their future work environment.

The three undergraduate programs we offer, namely the Bachelor of International Tourism Management, Bachelor of Hotel Management, and Bachelor of Food and Beverage Management, all require a semester-long internship. Meanwhile, the Faculty has forged and maintained close relationships with over 200 enterprises and organizations in the tourism, hotels and catering sector in and out of Macao, providing our students a variety of professional internship opportunities. The Faculty has always dedicated itself to the cultivation of outstanding talents, and has so far nurtured nearly 5,000 graduates who have established good reputations in the industry with their knowledge and competency and who are now becoming industrial elites. The quality of our education and research has also been recognized professionally. After gaining the “TedQual” (Tourism Education Quality) certification from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 2007, the Faculty received the renewal of the Certification for the maximum time period of 4 years (from 2017 to 2021) in 2017. In addition, the Faculty ranked among top 100 in the Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects in 2018.

The Faculty will continue to uphold our educational tradition and customer service philosophy to the Guest House, letting it serve as the internship base for the Hotel Management students, ensure our customers high-quality professional services, and leave an impression with the most comfortable and desirable accommodation experiences.
