M.U.S.T. Scholars Receive Outstanding Achievement Awards for Macao Research in Humanities and Social Sciences

The Macao Foundation and the Social Sciences in China Press jointly hosted the “Award Presentation Ceremony of the 5th Outstanding Achievement Awards for Macao Research in Humanities and Social Sciences” at the Conference Room of the Macao Science Center on the morning of September 5, 2019. Also held in conjunction with the award-presentation ceremony was the “6th International Conference on Macaology”, which was co-organized by the Macao Foundation and the Social Sciences in China Press, along with the University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic Institute, Macau University of Science and Technology and Jinan University.

Distinguished Guest Prof. of M.U.S.T. and renowned linguist Ching Cheung Fai received an Outstanding Contribution Award for Macao Research in Humanities and Social Sciences. The award is a honor specially made available for this year’s award-selection; it aims to commend individuals who have been promoting research in humanities and social sciences in Macao and have made extraordinary contributions and significant achievements in the research areas of humanities and social sciences. Deputy Director-General Xue Xiaofeng of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R. conferred the award to Prof. Ching Cheung Fai.

Prof. Ching Cheung Fai has made significant contributions to the Chinese linguistics community, especially in research of linguistic theories, practices and teaching in Hong Kong and Macao. His professional expertise and broad visions have helped to promote the development of linguistics, producing fruitful achievements and having far-reaching impacts on the Macao linguistics community. While conducting academic research, Prof. Ching Cheung Fai has been serving as a distinguished guest professor at M.U.S.T. dedicating himself to cultivating talents for Macao.

This is the 5th year of the Outstanding Achievement Awards for Macao Research in Humanities and Social Sciences, which has received wide attention and has been attached great emphasis by the Macao academic community and Macaology scholars home and abroad. This year, the award is jointly organized by the Macao Foundation and the Social Sciences in China Press, which is further divided into four subjects, 1) economics and management; 2) politics, law, journalism and sociology; 3) history, philosophy and literature and 4) linguistics, education and arts. The award opened with a call for application in May of 2018, having received 321 valid applications from Macao and outside of Macao, including 89 monographs and 232 papers. The number of applications increased by 10%, and finally 56 works won prizes, including first, second, third and outstanding awards respectively for monographs and papers.
