M.U.S.T. Confers Honorary Doctoral Degree upon Mr. Takeo Kawamura

Macau University of Science and Technology held the Ceremony for the Conferment of Honorary Doctoral Degree upon Mr. Takeo Kawamura on the morning of October 28, 2019. Dr. Alexis Tam Chon Weng, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao Special Administrative Region, officiated the Ceremony and conferred Doctor of Social Science honoris causa upon Mr. Takeo Kawamura.

Other prominent guests attending the Ceremony include the University management members, Chancellor Liu Chak Wan of M.U.S.T., Chairman Tong Chi Kin of the Advisory Committee, President Liu Liang, Vice President Tong Ka Lok, Vice President Jiang Zhihong, Vice President Pang Chuan and Vice President Kwong Ying Wa, plus a number of members from the University Council and the Advisory Committee of M.U.S.T., and representatives of other institutions. The guests joined M.U.S.T. teachers and students in witnessing the historic moment.

Mr. Takeo Kawamura gave his signature on the stage

Mr. Takeo Kawamura is a well-known Japanese politician and senior member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of Japan. He is now Member of the House of Representatives of Japan, Chairman of the Budget Committee of the House of Representatives, Chairperson of the Headquarters for Overcoming Population Decline and Regional Revitalization of the LDP, and President of the Japan-China Friendship Cultural Exchange Promotion Association. He also served as Chairman of the LDP’s Election Strategy Committee, Chief Cabinet Secretary and Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan. Mr. Takeo Kawamura has made great efforts in furthering the continuous improvement of China-Japan relationship. He led Japanese delegations and attended major events such as the Reception Marking the 40th Anniversary of The Treaty of Peace and Friendship between China and Japan, the Shanghai Forum 2018, and the Peace IS Blessing Art Exhibition of Renowned Chinese and Japanese Artists.

Furthermore, he campaigns for a friendly relationship between the two countries, and has reiterated the message in several speeches, noting “China and Japan are mutually indispensable partners. There is no doubt that a steady China-Japan relationship plays a key role in anchoring the evolving international situations” and “The fast renormalization of China and Japan is of great significance. The time has arrived for both countries to work toward mutual understanding and mutual coordination.” Mr. Takeo Kawamura has dedicated great efforts and made great contributions to the continuous improvement of both countries relations. The work of Mr. Takeo Kawamura has enhanced diplomatic and non-governmental exchanges between China and Japan that positively contributed to the long-term stabilization of their relations, has set a friendly tone for exchanges between the two peoples, and has opened up new prospects for diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.

The Art Trope members of the M.U.S.T. Culture and Sports Development Office put on a series of culturally exhilarating performances to mark the event, including a Guzheng duet named “In the Words of Pipa (Chinese Lute)”, an ocarina solo titled “The Forest Rhapsody”, a Guzheng trio titled “Yan (scotching)”, and a folk dance show titled “Shao Duo Li (representative trio dance of the Dai ethnic group of China)”.
