The 7th M.U.S.T. Games Held Successfully
In Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Macao’s Return to China and the Founding of the University

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland and the 20th anniversary of the founding of Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.), the 7th M.U.S.T. Games was held successfully at the Block I Track and Field Stadium of the University on the 14th, 15th, and 17th of November, 2019. The Games aimed to enhance students’ physical fitness, exercise and exert the sportsmanship spirit, fostering unity and friendship among students. The three-day event incorporated altogether 15 individual and group competitions, which attracted 400 athletes to participate. The 7th M.U.S.T. Games was co-organized by the Student Union and Graduate Student Union, and sponsored by the Macao Higher Education Fund and the University Hospital.

At the Opening Ceremony, the Guards of Honor of the University Art Troupe constituted the leading university flags formation, followed by a procession of formations of the 10 faculties/school/college made up of over 360 students holding the respective flags. The Student Union members then transformed themselves to spell out the shape of 20, signifying the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland and the 20th anniversary of the founding of Macau University of Science and Technology. Vice President Kwong Ying Wa of M.U.S.T. delivered a speech at the ceremony, noting that the year of 2019 marked not only the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland, but also the commencement of celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the founding of Macau University of Science and Technology. The 7th M.U.S.T. Games presented a valuable opportunity for the students to display their fitness, unity, and upward ambitions; he hoped that the athletes would be able to demonstrate sportsmanship throughout all the games.

The Games this year yielded altogether 45 awards and prizes, including 3 group competition awards. The games consisted of men’s 1500 meters, men’s and women’s 100 meters’ races, 4 × 100 meters relay and high jump, shot put, etc. Besides, the organizers have prepared fun sports games including basketball jump shots, nine-segment court football, volleyball passes and eye blinded sticker painting, as well as group competition projects such as “Five Persons Six Feet”.

Vice President Pang Chuan of M.U.S.T. spoke at the Closing Ceremony of the Games, where he said that physical sports has always been an important part of all-round development of college students. Team competitions required teamwork spirit where all strengths are united, and what physical sports really advocated was the noble characters in human beings.

The guests came to the competition venues to observe the games and cheer for the athletes, and presented awards and prizes to the winners. Finally, the General Association of Athletics of Macau coaches, Hou Yuanjiang and Chen Xin, and the University Hospital Representative Director Lam Wai Kei received souvenirs gifted by the organizers for their guidance and support for the Games. The organizers also would like to thank the Higher Education Fund for its sponsorship for the Games.
