On the morning of November 30, 2020, in Room N101, Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) and the South China Agricultural University (SCAU) signed a letter of intent in which they plan to cooperate in essential areas of the institute. It was signed by President Liu Liang and President Liu Yahong. Witnesses at the ceremony were Zhu Chaohua, Deputy Director of Guangdong Province Department of Education, Chancellor Dr. Liu Chak Wan, and Vice President Dr. Tong Ka Lok.
The letter of intent is expected to further collaborate in creating “The Institute of Life and Health”, based on the previously signed cooperation agreement. The two universities hope to draw upon their separate strengths and work together in developing interdisciplinary research as well as fomenting young talent in these fields.
In initiating this institute, the two parties will cooperate in disciplinary development, scientific research, personnel training, and the transfer and transformation of scientific and technological projects. By doing this, both sides hope to further implement the “Development Plan for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA)” and thus actively incorporate into the establishment of the Greater Bay Area international science and technology innovation center. Their efforts will be directed toward developing projects in new areas of zoological, plant, microbe, and health research with the hope of attracting more talents, increasing the output, and enhancing the prestige of science and technology innovation on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary.
