As international technological competition intensifies, mathematics has emerged as a critical component in the realm of technological development. Across various domains such as quantum computing, electronic communication, information security, and smart cities, a strong foundation in mathematics proves indispensable. In recent years, Macao has been actively deepening its collaboration with mainland China across diverse fields of technology, actively aligning itself with the national development agenda, and participating in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. These endeavors have provided Macao with an expansive platform for academic research and integration. As a rapidly evolving discipline on the global stage, mathematics plays a pivotal role in facilitating progress. The rapid socioeconomic development witnessed by diverse industries necessitates an ever-increasing demand for individuals with proficiency in mathematics, thus rendering the outlook for those with a background in mathematical sciences highly promising. Seizing upon its unique strengths and in response to contemporary trends, the Macau University of Science and Technology has proactively devised and implemented a doctoral degree program in mathematics. This program seeks to nurture high-level talent engaged in fundamental and applied research in mathematics, catering to the needs of the nation, the Greater Bay Area, and Macao specifically. Consequently, establishing this doctoral degree program will foster enhanced collaborations between the University's doctoral candidates and international academic circles, foster cross-border knowledge exchange, and engender a climate conducive to innovation.
