Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management of Macau University of Science and Technology Held the Second Session of this Semester’s Distinguished Scholar Forum of Hospitality and Tourism
-- How to Get Published in a Top Journal: An Editor’s Perspective

The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) of Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) organized the second session of this semester’s Distinguished Scholar Forum of Hospitality and Tourism successfully on October 17, 2023. Professor Perry Hobson, Director of the Academy of Tourism at Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) in the Netherlands, was invited as the speaker. Professor Rob Simons from the Breda University of Applied Sciences; Professor Joseph Lema from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, U.S.; Professor Ben K. Goh, Dean of FHTM; Professor Timothy Lee, Vice-Dean of FHTM; Assistant Dean and Associate Professor Zhang Yang; Assistant Dean and Associate Professor Wong Weng Chou; Program Director Feng Yan; and more than 120 teachers and students attended the lecture which was sponsored by the Macao Foundation.

On behalf of the teachers and students of FHTM, Dean Ben K. Goh extended a warm welcome to Professor Hobson and highlighted his career as editor and reviewer at several top journals in the Hospitality and Tourism Management field for many years. His extensive experience and profound understanding of the publishing process will undoubtedly provide valuable guidance and inspiration to the students. Dean Ben K. Goh encouraged the students to pay close attention to Professor Hobson’s remarks and advice, absorb his wisdom, and leverage his experiences to improve their publishing endeavors.

Professor Hobson shared his personal growth and work experience and discussed how to get published in top journals. He encouraged students to explore and discover research topics they are passionate about while working hard and facing challenges. His clear and humorous explanations greatly benefited the students.

In the Q&A session, students actively participated in asking questions about how to find the research topic they were interested in and how to choose the right journal when submitting papers. Professor Hobson was very patient and friendly, answering students' questions individually, and combining his experience and practical process to provide students with forward-looking insights and advice.

This lecture was successfully concluded with intense discussions between Professor Hobson and the students. Through this lecture, students gained a deeper understanding of selecting and publishing journal papers, and how to complete a journal paper and have new ideas and positive motivation for their future academic career development.
