 On November 21 and 23, 2022, Macau University of Science and Technology held the Scholarship and Grant Awards Presentation Ceremony in the N101, Auditorium of the Library Building. In response to the epidemic prevention requirements this year, the award ceremony was held in two sessions. A total of 22 sponsorship organizations awarded 26 scholarships and grants to 264 outstanding students at the ceremony.

 

Vice-Chancellor and President of M.U.S.T. Chair Professor Joseph Hun-wei LEE addressed the Ceremony

Vice-Chancellor and President of M.U.S.T. Chair Professor Joseph Hun-wei LEE said in his speech that with the support of the country and the Macao SAR government, M.U.S.T. is being developed rapidly, and its overall competitiveness and international influence have been continuously increased. In October 2022, Times Higher Education announced the 2023 World University Rankings which M.U.S.T. has promoted to top 250 university in the world. M.U.S.T. has also been designated by the central government as one of the two Macau universities that contribute to the development of innovation and technology in the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), and build a demonstration base for high-quality technology transformation in the “Hengqin-Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone”. M.U.S.T. has established Faculty of Innovation Engineering and keeps pace with the development of Macau, Greater Bay Area and Motherland. M.U.S.T. is committed to cultivating high-quality talents to meet the needs of innovative technology and economic globalization. In May of this year, the University became the first university in Macao and successfully passed the Institutional Accreditation, a quality assessment of higher education conducted by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) in the United Kingdom. M.U.S.T. further implements the internationalization strategy, strengthens cooperation with well-known universities around the world, creates more opportunities for students to study abroad, and broadens students’ international horizons. Prof. Joseph Hun-wei LEE encouraged students to aim high, be brave enough to try, always keep an open mind, discover new interests, accept new challenges, comprehensively improve their skills, and contribute to social development.

 

  

The representative of the scholarship winners addressed the Ceremony

Ma, Sio Teng, on behalf of the first round of the scholarship winners, gave a speech looking back on her university life over the past two years. With many excellent professors, learning atmosphere, and substantial extracurricular activities. Student Ma felt that she had grown a lot and the exceptional learning environment made it easier for students to integrate into campus life. Through the theoretical and practical classes, she can understand the similarities and differences between the medical systems in Macao and Mainland, so as to strengthen her understanding of the development of medicine between two places, which will help her prepare to enter the society and integrate into the Greater Bay Area in the future. She also expressed her sincere gratitude to the various scholarship-providing institutions for their affirmation, as well as the hard work of the professors. In the future, she will definitely stick to the University motto of  “Dedication to practical studies, enhancement of knowledge, ability and quality” which will continue drives her to study hard with the spirit of perseverance, hard work, and strength to win glory for her alma mater and make contributions to the society.

Ho, Un I, the student representative of the second of the scholarship winners, expressed that she enjoyed the study experience of past two years university life. In her medical class, the teaching concept is dominated by clinical problems. Top-notch professors and Chinese-English bilingual teaching method have reached international standards, allowing her to gradually master professional knowledge, critical thinking, and communication skills. Through internships in different cities in the Mainland, it strengthens the understanding to the cities in the Greater Bay Area and enhances students’ competitiveness, and prepares students to become tomorrow’s doctors which cultivated by Macau. Student Ho also expressed her heartfelt thanks to the various scholarship-providing institutions on behalf of the student winners. They will continue to uphold the University motto and always be tireless in learning, never forget their original aspirations and move towards their goals with a humble heart. They will shine brightly in the future and give back to the society with their effort.

 

Scholarship and Grant Awards Presentation Ceremony is held to encourage students with outstanding academic performance, give them recognition and affirmation, and  encourage other students to study hard. The University awards are also presented at the Ceremony, including: Outstanding Cultural and Academic Award, Outstanding Community Service Award, Outstanding Sports Award, and Student Handbook Cover Design Award, to encourage students to strengthen their all-round development while working hard to learn professional knowledge.
